I don’t even care for Sonic X but damn is its characterization perfect. I really hope we can reach these heights again someday. Not holding out hope for that though based on recent portrayals.
Some people have had the audacity to say X Sonic is boring, has no screentime, when it's further from the truth.
But one thing X Sonic did so well, is how they handled Sonic at moments like this. Realise how Sonic doesn't give a speech that basically describes himself 1:1 like it's ripped from Wikipedia?
Everything about his character is told through his actions, his little replies, his expression, his exchange with Dark Oak, and the ambience of the landscape. Even when Dark Oak believes his struggle to fight is inevitable, Sonic also encourages Dark Oak to 'keep going and fighting', despite them being enemies. This contrasts so hard with IDW, which make him a mouthy character that desperately wants to bring others to his side.
X Sonic translated/interpretated the Sonic IP better than every any other Sonic media, and imo its writing eclipsed many official Sonic games too.

That game is cool, but it totally loses the *gameplay* element of time travel; having to scope out the level and make smart use of the geometry to warp. That's so much of what makes Sonic CD so engaging.

I feel ppl mix up X having boring scenarios w/Sonic himself being out of character.
Sonic is napping half the time cuz half the eps is random bullshit he finds uninteresting like going on a field trip or a garden until Eggman tries to ruin it and thats when Sonic has to step in.
