What do Sonic and Jujutsu Kaisen have in common?
Well on the surface, pretty much nothing. We all know that Sonic borrows more from Dragon Ball, with his Golden Super Saiyan transformation, right?
Sure, that's true, but Sonic, being my favourite franchise, and Jujutsu Kaisen, being my favourite battle shonen(fav battle shonen, not favourite anime/manga, there's a difference) have a lot in common when it comes to the core values of their series.
While Sonic is about freedom, and JJK could be said to be about having hope in a cruel world, both series converge to the same strong value. That being the value of life.
In the Sonic series, freedom is what allows living things to prosper, even when it comes with pain and suffering. That's why foils like The End, Merlina, and Sonic X come to mind, because those entities for the most part are nihilistic, denying the value of life and trying to cope with how terrible it is. In the Sonic series, living isn't defined by having a huge goal in mind. Just something simple as running is enough, let alone smiling or laughing(Princess Elise for example). That's it.
Likewise, with JJK, it feels very similar in my perspective. Yuji has suffered immensely. He lost Junpei, his teacher, Sukuna controlled his body and killed many, and Yuji initially believed life needed specific designated roles to be valuable, but that belief seemed less and less likely the more he was confronted with cruel realities. However, in the end he concluded that the simple things in life is what inherently gave life value, even if people suffered, or died in ways that could be deemed 'meaningless'.
I see both series aiming for the same goal. That goal is to define what living actually means.
Just wanted to make this post to make people realise that Sonic shouldn't only parralel with shonen like dragon ball. If anything, I feel like Sonic is so distant from the standard shonen title(e.g main character that has set goal like wanting to become hokage, pirate king, the strongest warrior ect.)
Those are my thoughts. What do others think?

Some people have had the audacity to say X Sonic is boring, has no screentime, when it's further from the truth.
But one thing X Sonic did so well, is how they handled Sonic at moments like this. Realise how Sonic doesn't give a speech that basically describes himself 1:1 like it's ripped from Wikipedia?
Everything about his character is told through his actions, his little replies, his expression, his exchange with Dark Oak, and the ambience of the landscape. Even when Dark Oak believes his struggle to fight is inevitable, Sonic also encourages Dark Oak to 'keep going and fighting', despite them being enemies. This contrasts so hard with IDW, which make him a mouthy character that desperately wants to bring others to his side.
X Sonic translated/interpretated the Sonic IP better than every any other Sonic media, and imo its writing eclipsed many official Sonic games too.

Interpretations of characters need to retain the core essence of that Sonic, and can be different. For example, Fleetway Sonic is more rude and impulsive than game sonic, but his core still feels like Sonic. That's what a different version of the character is meant to feel like. Movie Sonic though....just lacks that whatsoever. He doesn't embody freedom, independence. Instead he's a domesticated furry ball that learns how to live as a 'family'. In the first movie it was defendable, because Sonic and Tom were friends. But in Sonic 2, they make Sonic akin to Tom's son, which is just weird.
I feel like the flaws in Sonic and the blade of courage are starting to become more prevalent, and I don't think it'll get much better due to the nature of COROCORO magazine, which is a shame. The pacing in the recent chapter felt ridiculously TOO FAST. I think the start of this arc has had this recent problem.
Villain introduction
We're introduced to some sorta empathetic element of the villain or related to them
Sonic defeats them in very quick fashion
Realistically these scenarios should be taking 2 chapters to finish. I love BOC characterisation. I also really liked the AMO arc and its lore(altho that too had issues), but what I've been seeing lately is not really it. And I feel like the nature of COROCORO magazine really wants game adaptation manga to be way too simple and fast for elementary kids to enjoy.
Most people that call him 'boring' have barely watched the show. They only watched the first saga, which was simple and had many 'robot of the week' episodes, but when season 2 came around, the sentiment of X Sonic just 'sitting around doing nothing until the end' falls flat on its head.

Such a carefully and beautifully crafted series which has flaws(like everything else in the world) but teaches so much more about empathy and humanity than any shonen I have ever read
If there is a next life I'd like to read JJK in that again
I find WHA way more entertaining. The down times in Frieren as so uninspiring, because they're mostly timeskip montages, with no conflict of those moments. Even when we do get 'action', it's reduced to power fantasy fights with barely any depth.
I think it's a top tier shonen, probably the best among old generation, but its fans are definitely rabid. The show still has flaws.
Once Jujutsu Kaisen anime ends, I know many are going to switch up and label it as one of the greats.
I'm primarily a writer, but trying to improve art as well. Will try post sketches everyday.
