Do they use the MLB ball or the minor league ball in the Arizona Fall League? Don't worry, I'm going to overreact to what Tekoah Roby does no matter what, just curious

Important update to help all of us channel our overreaction more precisely: xitter.cf/jonmberra/status/21086…
It’s the major league ball.

Important Cardinals pitching development question: How many years until you're allowed to throw 100 innings again if you missed the whole season except for the Arizona Fall League?

OK I'm in
Elevated 96.8 mph heater from Tekoah Roby for strikeout #6 on the day through three innings. He struck out the side in the 3rd. Fun!

My feeling about tipping pitches for a long time has been "if a player is good at identifying it, that's a fun and real part of baseball," but I think we're officially too good at it. Not sure how you could actually deal with that, because you can't keep guys off Twitter, but...

As with position players pitching—though with more significant consequences—we know too much about how to optimize baseball and as a result this piece of it is no longer fun

Level of offseason I'm on today is "free agent class at third base is a mess, get Ivan Herrera taking a million ground balls a day immediately."

(Obviously I would love Teruaki Sato, but if you're an agent representing a power hitter from another league and you let him go play in Busch Stadium you should be arrested by the Japanese government.)

If you're skeptical, consider this: the Cardinals put a DH with an iffy arm who runs like a catcher at third base a few months ago, and he was totally fine!

I missed this at the time, but it's a reminder of how old I am that OPS is now treated as a Real Stat by people who hate analytics. I literally discovered OPS because I wanted to argue with number-haters about Ray Lankford, go back to batting average or wear your pocket protector

I just watched three Ruben Sierra swings for no reason in particular, and I invite you to do the same. He's already swinging way harder than he safely can... if we were measuring bat speed in 1995 I think he might have broken his neck trying to max it out youtube.com/watch?v=1f9aFLLx…

A lot of people in the mid 90s said weight training was ruining baseball players's swings, and they were pretty clearly wrong about that. But having watched these again you have to consider the possibility that they were right about this one guy

Some hero has uploaded his first career triple and it's just a completely different guy. Beginning in ~1992 he was replaced by Scott Steiner, who was not given any baseball lessons beforehand youtube.com/watch?v=Sdo8hv8P…

Hey… I heard you wanted more niche Cardinals reliever content. Ryan Fernandez's arm angle keeps creeping up. Feels like it's now exactly as high as it can get without everyone immediately saying "hey what's going on with that guy's arm"

Matthew Liberatore throwing a sweeper... I appreciate that he's still working to give me stuff to look at on Savant even with the season over
