Tomorrow morning we're opening the doors to the @AntlerGlobal x @EveryBanking Founder Lounge during #SFTechWeek. It's a half-day built for early-stage founders, and we'd be glad to have you.
I'll write your a16z Speedrun application for you.
@a16z is putting $1M into early-stage founders building across tech, Al, and games.
I have a cool advantage here:
I've talked one-on-one with founders backed by al6z.
I've heard them work through ideas in real time, change their minds halfway through an answer, and light up when we hit the thing they understand better than anyone else.
That's what I want to find in your application.
Bring me a finished draft, half-written answers, or an idea you can't quite explain yet. We'll have one call. I'll keep asking questions until we get to the good stuff, then send you a complete draft built from your answers.
If I love the idea, I'll introduce you to an a16z-backed founder who understands what you're building. I know enough of them to find the right person.
Not promising that though, otherwise it wouldn't mean anything.
Comment "Speedrun" and I'll walk you through the process.

I've been talking to a YC founder who's 15 years in and still doing big new things. One of the biggest popular misconceptions about startups is that founders have a brilliant idea, then implement it. In fact more often than not the biggest idea comes later.

A CS undergrad asked me where he could have most effect in the AI age. I said probably at either extreme: either close to the technology, actually making LLMs, or close to the customer, using AI to give them exactly what they want. Or maybe both if you can stretch that far.
Replit CEO Amjad Masad and a16z's Erik Torenberg on the young talent formula: go really deep, stay authentically likable.
Amjad: "If you're able to tell a story about some project you've done and you've gone really, really deep in it, that's always impressive because that's what most people lack."
"Most people get bored easily. Most people do the traditional thing. But did you actually follow a thread all the way through?"
"That shows all sorts of good personality traits: persistence, intrinsic motivation. You might be doing something where you're following your curiosity, and maybe it doesn't have an immediate reward."
Erik: "I think it's both not being afraid to spike in something. A lot of people just show up too broad in everything, but not really amazing at anything. And just follow that to its conclusion. See how good you can get at it."
"While also having a baseline of interpersonal skills. Be likable in a way that's not contrived or fake. Be truly authentic, because people want to support people who are good people."

Amjad Masad with Gagan Biyani and Erik Torenberg on HAA: The Horowitz Andreessen Academy
The ideal education today is a place with room to meander, a space to go heads-down when you’re obsessed, alongside unconventional peers.
Gagan sees it in every student he meets: the interesting thing they're building is happening outside class, unsupported. Amjad got really into chess and it evolved into a whole product line. The thesis behind HAA is side quests shouldn't be on the side.
No grades, no tests. Trust is the design principle - Silicon Valley runs on it, so why not apply it to students? Empower ambitious young people to run with the ideas that have real gravity they can’t avoid.
"Young people should be heretics… We respect the past, but we're unapologetically going to change it."

Are your hiring and HR processes set up to scale? This guide breaks down the fundamentals founders need to avoid expensive mistakes. bit.ly/3SdFvEf
I’m optimistic about what AI unlocks, but the systems nerd in me never stops building contingencies for when the playing field shifts. That instinct shapes how I think about automation.
19 people.
That’s how many external folks I talked to today. It’s both energizing and validating that what we’ve built (and continue to build) with @EveryBanking is a genuine painkiller for so many areas founders AND small business owners wrestle with daily.
