I am so looking forward to my friend @FatimaShabanNDP making corrupt Doug Ford's life miserable.
On Monday, I had the incredible honour of being officially sworn in as the Member of Provincial Parliament for Scarborough Southwest. This moment means more to me than words can express. From growing up in Scarborough as a young immigrant to now having the privilege of representing the very community that raised me, this is a moment I will never forget. I am deeply grateful to everyone who believed in me, supported me, and helped make this possible. But this moment is not just about making history. It is about the responsibility that comes with it. I am here to listen, to work hard, to stand up for our community, and to deliver meaningful change for the people of Scarborough Southwest. Thank you for putting your trust in me. ❤️

When even Jon Burnside thinks you’re a wacko, that should ring alarm bells. Brad Bradford simply can’t be trusted and it’s obvious his corporate, money-grubbing agenda would bring the city to a standstill.

On the privatization piece, noting that in 2016 I revealed some key figures around John Tory were quietly working with Toronto Hydro leaders ad some Bay Street figures to at least partially privatize Hydro. They denied, then tried, then gave up in the face of council opposition

We haven't seen that many councillor endorsements of Toronto mayoral candidates but Olivia Chow got a bunch, including some not closely aligned, like Jon Burnside, to express concern w Brad Bradford's 'turn Toronto Water into a corporation" pledge

I’m hearing from friends in Alberta that today is actually hitting folks pretty hard. Not the vote to remain, which was a relief, but the other 9 questions. It’s becoming clear that the feeling of unity suggested by the referendum result is undercut by majority support for questions which feature policies that scapegoat migrants. But no amount of punching down by Danielle Smith will fix Alberta’s health care, public education or cost-of-living crises. These are the consequences of years of underfunding, not of newcomers trying to build a life in that beautiful province. Albertans deserve real solutions to the crises they face, not scapegoating that divides us and fuels prejudice. Right now, all Canadians have an opportunity to reject this and say: we stand with migrants facing the brunt of this cynical, negative politics. A united Canada must mean more than just rejecting separation. It must mean actually standing up for all of us — building a movement across our differences to make this a country where everyone can live a life of dignity, equality and belonging.

Yesterday's election victory for the left in Vancouver is a great example of what happens when the left can come together and not split the vote at least for the mayoralty. Now they have a centre-left mayor and the most left-wing council in years✊️
The third largest city in Canada just rejected the cryptocurrency clown and his billionaire pro cop council and swung hard left. You're looking at a mix of communists, socialists, soc dems, progressives, and a liberal or two here

Important context on who's on bikes most often - migrants, racialized people, low-wage and gig workers - that is who Ford is after.
Doug Ford’s war on bike lanes isn’t about traffic—it’s part of a global right-wing backlash to vilify urban residents and defend fossil fuel interests @TheBreachMedia dove into the politics of cycling, and debunked some of the myths along the way

Brad Bradford’s biggest boosters are Ezra Levant, Turning Point Canada and the gun lobby. Take with that what you will. #topoli
👀 BUSTED: @BradMBradford outed incumbent @MayorOliviaChow yesterday on TVO's Mayoral debate, exposing that she never rides the TTC due to public safety concerns. Unlike past Mayors, Chow travels with her taxpayer funded security detail 🔫 "Which I MUST have. Come on!" she said

New from me: Almost 2 years after I filed an FOI, I finally got bureaucrats’ communications from Aug. to Nov. 2024 as Premier Ford prepared and launched his war on bike lanes

This, more than anything illustrates Brad Bradford's total neglect of his constituents in his Beaches East York ward. Imagine this being the state of your apartment balcony?
1/ 8 years of @BradMBradford & all I got was a rusted balcony guard at 500 Dawes. I recall the discussions I had with Bradford about 500 Dawes. He had no interest in utilizing the City's remedial action powers & spoke highly of the 20k in fines the City imposed at that time.

Stelco workers in Hamilton are being laid off *right now*. They can’t afford to wait through a years-long court battle, and neither can our steel industry. We have to act now to protect Canadian jobs and assert public control in this strategic sector — for our sovereignty and economic security. That means nationalizing Stelco.
Mélanie Joly on taking Stelco to court: "We've hired the best lawyers in Canada to help us to deal with that, and we will fight to keep the jobs in Hamilton."

Ontario Place should be a fun, vibrant, green and public destination for everyone to enjoy. I was proud to move a motion at council to ensure the City of Toronto takes a stand and intervenes in support of a Supreme Court challenge against Doug Ford’s private Spa deal. It’s being heard today.

For $50 million Doug Ford could provide each about to be unemployed Hamilton steelworker with $100,000 in financial supports...or, you could remove Toronto bike lanes.

Thank you to everyone who stood with me over the years. It’s been a scary journey but I have always been grounded in my work and ability to provide exemplary service to my constituents. Trump and his administration have been after me since I arrived in Congress. I have always stood up to him and that will never change. The pedophile protector will never silence me.

The earlier review of Omar's immigration records looked at many of the same issues being investigated now. washingtonpost.com/national-…
