Can technology bridge the access to justice gap without compromising our fundamental rights?
At the last Access to Justice Parley, Devon Technologies explored how technology can make justice more accessible.
But when technology intersects with security, terrorism, and fundamental rights, we must ask: how do we harness its benefits while protecting the rights of the people it serves?
This is the conversation we’re bringing to the table at the 2026 Access to Justice Parley.
Join us as we explore how to balance security with fundamental rights and advance access to justice in an increasingly digital world.

EBOLA: STAY INFORMED. STAY SAFE.
Following the confirmation of an Ebola disease case in the FCT, the Federal Government, through the NCDC and relevant health authorities, is strengthening surveillance and response efforts.
Ebola spreads through direct contact with the blood or body fluids of an infected person who is sick or has died, or through contaminated materials.

It's been six years since the EndSARS protest, and we still remember.
We remember how citizens came together to raise funds, organize logistics, get legal aid and medical care all because they believed in the same cause.
We remember that a movement can change a nation's conversation even when change comes slower than we hoped.
We remember those who lost their lives and the families still seeking justice.
The protest wasn't just about the police unit. It was about dignity, accountability, and the simple belief that young people in Nigeria should be able to build a future without fear.
The work hasn't finished, not until we see the Nigeria we hope for and people get the justice they deserve.

A smarter system doesn’t automatically mean a fairer one.
As data and AI become part of justice systems, we must ask who benefits, who gets left out, and what safeguards are needed.

What does access to justice mean to you?
To some, it means being heard. To others, it means knowing your rights and being able to seek help when those rights are violated.
But one thing is clear: justice should not be a privilege reserved for those who can afford it or have the right connections.
So, how do we make justice more accessible to everyone?
Join us as we explore the barriers to justice and what it takes to make the system work for everyone.

Nigeria's justice sector has absorbed some of the world's largest development interventions. What each of those interventions has left behind beyond their closure has to be considered in plotting the future of our judiciary's development.
Scan the QR on the cover to find out: does bigger funding mean better, lasting reform — or does scale compete with the grassroots mechanisms that make change stick?
Our latest analysis, The Scale Illusion, traces two decades of partnership to answer that question.

Yesterday, PPDC met with the founder of Voice of Education Africa (VEA), Queen Esther Anyanwu, to discuss potential areas of partnership and collaboration.
VEA shared insights into its work advancing education for people in correctional facilities, from preventive and remedial education to reintegration and grassroots engagement. The organisation also highlighted its use of arts and creativity, including guerrilla theatre, to communicate values and inspire behavioural change.
The conversation explored opportunities for both organisations to work together in advancing access to justice, education, rehabilitation and inclusive communities.

Behind the Walls of Abolongo: How a Data Revolution Is Restoring Faces and Futures
In the quiet corridors of Abolongo Custodial Centre in Oyo State, something remarkable has just taken place. For the first time, every inmate those still behind the walls and those already released has a complete record in the system. Not a single person left unaccounted for.
The Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC) stepped in with its Custodial Information Management System (CIMS), and the numbers tell a story of quiet transformation: 561 entries completed. Among those still held are 74 convicted persons and 305 men and women still waiting for their day in court.
The rest have already walked free, their details carefully logged so their stories do not vanish into bureaucratic silence.
The breakthrough came during a courtesy visit to the new officer in charge, Deputy Controller of Corrections Bayo Okunade. Standing in the facility that is now fully mapped, Okunade did more than offer thanks. He spoke with the quiet determination of a man who has seen the human cost of missing files and delayed justice.
With the new digital tools in place, he announced he is ready to begin virtual court hearings—linking the custodial centre directly to the courtroom so that justice no longer has to wait for the slow shuffle of paper and physical transport.
For the 305 people still awaiting trial, that single decision could mean the difference between months of uncertainty and a timely hearing.
For the families who have waited outside the gates, it means a clearer path to answers.
And for the officers who once struggled with incomplete records, it means the system can finally see every person in its care.
What began as a technical intervention has become something more human: a promise that no inmate at Abolongo will remain invisible again.
Partner with us to support the work and register to join the movement for a more accountable, humane and efficient justice system. YOU can be part of this CHANGE.

66 Years On
On 1 October 1960, Nigeria took control of its own affairs. Sixty-six years later, the question of what the future holds.
We have been through a lot and have done a lot as a nation, resilient, talented, and strong. Our future will be shaped by our ability to remain united and by our faith in the strength that comes with peace.
For us at PPDC, independence is complete when citizens can be seen and heard and freedom guaranteed without fear. The government is closer to the people when there is transparency and accountability. Civic engagement makes that possible.

The only Primary Health Care facilities serving the people of Kusogi, Bokani Ward, Mokwa LGA, Niger State, are in a deplorable condition.
This is not just a building in poor condition; it is a healthcare crisis affecting real families every day.
Pregnant women, children, elderly people and other vulnerable residents are being forced to live with the consequences of inadequate healthcare infrastructure. When someone falls seriously ill or a child needs urgent medical attention, families may have to travel long distances in search of treatment. For people already struggling to survive, the cost of transportation, consultation, medication and treatment in private hospitals can be beyond their means.
This is why a functional PHC is not a luxury. It is a necessity.
Residents should not have to choose between seeking medical care and feeding their families. They should not have to watch their loved ones suffer because the only healthcare facility available to them has been allowed to deteriorate.
Niger State receives billions of naira through statutory allocations from the Federation Account, while significant resources have also been committed to healthcare interventions at both state and federal levels. Yet the condition of this facility raises a serious question about follow-up and accountability.
Government interventions should not end when funds are released or projects are announced. There must be proper monitoring to ensure that the intended communities actually benefit. Authorities must inspect projects on the ground, identify facilities that remain unfinished or unusable, and ensure that contractors and implementing agencies deliver what was promised.
I am therefore calling on the Niger State Government, the Niger State Primary Health Care Development Agency, the Ministry of Primary Health Care and Mokwa Local Government authorities to urgently visit Kusogi, assess the situation and take concrete steps to rehabilitate and properly equip this PHC.
Federal interventions should also be followed up to ensure that the people they were designed to serve are actually benefiting.
The people of Kusogi deserve access to safe, functional and affordable healthcare.
Please act. Do not wait for this situation to become another preventable tragedy.

Peace is often understood simply as the absence of war. But for millions of Nigerians, peace is much more than the absence of gunfire.
It is the ability of a farmer to cultivate his land without fear of attack. It is a child being able to walk to school and return home safely. It is a business owner being able to open a shop without worrying about kidnapping or violence. It is a community being able to resolve disputes without resorting to violence. It is also the confidence that when someone's rights are violated, there is a functioning justice system capable of providing redress.

Peace is more than the absence of gunfire. It is whether a farmer can work without fear, a child can go to school safely, a business can operate freely, and a citizen can trust that the justice system will protect their rights.
This is why the 2026 theme, “Invest in Peace: For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day,” resonates deeply with Nigeria.
We cannot wait for violence to happen before we invest in peace. Sustainable peace requires strengthening justice, institutions, communities and the opportunities that allow people to live with dignity.
As we mark this year's International Day of Peace, the question is not simply “Do we have peace?” but “What are we doing to build and sustain it?”

The deaths of miners in Niger demand more than headlines; they demand answers.
There is a need for a deeper, independent and thorough investigation into what happened, the circumstances surrounding the deaths, and whether preventable failures contributed to the tragedy.
More importantly, the issues of PRETRIAL DETENTION, CONGESTION and HUMAN RIGHTS must not be overlooked.
The reported overcrowding of the detention facility and the conditions in which detainees were held raise serious questions about how people awaiting trial are treated. Being arrested or detained on suspicion of an offence does not take away a person’s fundamental right to life, dignity and humane treatment.
Pretrial detention should not become a sentence before conviction, and congestion in detention facilities should never create conditions that put human lives at risk.
Every life lost deserves accountability. The families deserve truth, and the public deserves to know what happened.
We must not allow this tragedy to fade away without clear answers and meaningful action. Investigate deeply. Establish the facts. Address pretrial detention and congestion. Protect human rights. Hold those responsible accountable.
