Besides lokasaṅgraha, the Bhagavadgītā, by calling those who accomplish yajña as "kṣapita-kalmaṣāḥ"/"they whose impurities are destroyed" (4:30 tinyurl.com/BhG430), gives another purpose of yajña so to speak, commonly called citta-śuddhi in Śāṅkara Vedānta. 1/

Is it this illustration by Annambhaṭṭa in his Tarkasaṁgraha Dīpikā, almost in passing in his gloss on the nine-item list of dravya-s, that is the first instance of its use that later instructors have adopted?

Seeing कषगम and पलनीस्वामी in the same daily today leads me to suspect that its source is English and Tamiḻ i.e. it's "Kazhagam" and "Palaniswami" that were the targets transliterated, not கழகம் and பழனிச்சாமி. Also, is "ष" an arbitrary "ழ" placeholder like "zh" in practice?

How a structured sequence like the five-membered syllogism is demanded in situations where one needs to convince another, and steps can be skipped only while convincing oneself, is outlined by Śatāvadhānī Dr R Ganesh in this 2-min excerpt.archive.org/details/shatAvad… 01:09:27-01:12:01

A "non-Proustian madeleine" I learnt of via Śatāvadhānī Dr. R Ganesh, is the "dīrghaśaṣkulī bhakṣaṇa nyāya" of Sāṃkhya, where munching a fried snack is treated as a case for Gestalt perception over reductionism. jstage.jst.go.jp/article/ibk… archive.org/details/shatAvad… 49:01-51:17

In the same series, Śatāvadhānī Dr. R Ganesh presents an overview of the Nyāya darśana with a quick reckoning of the texts, terminology, theoretical framework, and tools which have been adopted in a standard fashion by other schools too. archive.org/details/shatAvad… 00:54:54-01:32:11

It's striking how the schooling and even higher education experience of our generation has more in common with that of our grandparents than that of our nephews/nieces in school now (even before the pandemic forced schooling online). The copies shown are from a 1996-97 reprint.

What date range can be assigned to the earliest use of the "ब्रह्मविद्यायां योगशास्त्रे" designation of the Bhagavadgītā that is assumed as fait accompli in a contemporary pārāyaṇa? For that matter, what is the earliest reference we have of Gītā-pārāyaṇa as an activity?

Prof. Radhavallabh Tripathi, recalling on-stage hazards from the Nāṭyaśāstra, notes how they will amount to an actor's failure only on a lapse from sākṣī-bhāva, thus linking occupational hazards of nāṭya and central principle of the śāstra. youtube.com/watch?v=yQ6YbFZt… 08:14-14:08

In another instance of a Sanskrit authority exemplifying humility even in areas near their specialization, Dr. Radhavallabh Tripathi shares a saṃkalpa to make more videos on Śaiva-darśana with an intent to learn from younger people more well-versed in it! xitter.cf/longhandnotes/status/1…

Dr. Radhavallabh Tripathi devotes the first 15 minutes of this lecture to how hāsya-rasa is more than "light humour" in Nāṭyaśāstra. A keyword is नर्म/narma. youtu.be/53KZiyi1r28 The rest is devoted to Duṣyanta's "opener" with Śakuntalā in Abhijñānaśākuntalam. 🐝

Kambar in his Paṭṭabhiṣeka word-picture mentions Lakṣmaṇa not by name but only as one of the twins performing cāmara-sevā, and this expositor views it as the poet's fitting tribute to the self-effacing, selfless service of Lakṣmaṇa. youtube.com/watch?v=OsoWSCTp… 12:20-17:07

Speaking of beards, it always cracked me up that a common Hindi phrase for shaving is "दाढ़ी बनाना"("making the beard"). TIL that a Sanskrit term for hairdresser is श्मश्रुवर्धक:("beard-grower"?) thanks to a pārāyaṇa of the Paṭṭabhiṣeka Sarga. valmikiramayan.net/utf8/yudd… 6.128.13

Rāma, in this artist's impression, even when ensconced on the throne, has not let go of his righteous bow, which lies no farther than his own lap. This, at a moment any man in history would have allowed himself to take it easy! bit.ly/31VGyJH. xitter.cf/longhandnotes/status/1….

In this Kerala mural, the scene of Ahalyā's redemption shows Rāma with abhaya-mudrā(and Lakṣmaṇa with an apparent mṛgaśīrṣa hasta).xitter.cf/longhandnotes/status/1… The paṭṭābhiṣeka scene shows a seated Rāma simultaneously in tranquillity and preparedness.xitter.cf/longhandnotes/status/1… 1/
