Short video about my book "Travels through the Spanish Civil War" published by @HurstPublishers. Took me 7 years to write. Starts in Barcelona's Plaça Catalunya, ends in Austria. Takes the reader to Aragón with Orwell's son, Gernika, the Ebro battle, the Valley of the Fallen. I wanted to understand the war by traveling through today's landscapes, the scars of violence still there, looking also how the war is remembered, dark clouds threatening today.
Tourists in Bath once asked me when the city ‘closed’ .. I was pretty confused.

Coalition partners killed Daesh's spokesman this week. Largely absent from public commentary, he was nonetheless a senior figure within the group. His presence in Yemen highlights the lack of presence the group has in Syria and Iraq; his death highlights the weakness of Daesh's dispersed structure.
