People keep asking for some practical #EAL strategies and activities. Here is a 🧵of my tried and tested books, blogs and free websites - there are plenty more offering a mixture of paid/free resources, tips and advice which I also use; this is a very individual selection: 1/17
The mesmerising Corpus Clock in Cambridge was conceived by Dr John Taylor and unveiled by Professor Stephen Hawking. It has no traditional hands or numbers; but a fascinating “time-eater” sits on top, devouring each passing second. #ClockWatching @pmj_photos #PMJWeeklyChallenge

Week 68 of #PMJWeeklyChallenge is Clock watching. Once you start looking, they’re everywhere: towers, stations, sundials, ovens, wrists. The clocks go back in the UK and Europe on Sunday, which gives some of us an extra hour to find one. Your own take is very welcome. Enjoy.

ALT Cover image for Week 68 of #PMJWeeklyChallenge, Clock watching. The square clock tower of Cardiff Central station rises above the station’s slate roof. It has a dark ribbed dome with a gold finial on top, green trim and a white face with black Roman numerals. Overhead railway wires and a metal cable bracket cross the frame, and the edge of a wooden platform canopy hangs in at the top right. Behind the tower stands a curved modern building of blue glass under a grey sky. A dark caption box reads “Clock watching” and “#PMJWeeklyChallenge”.
One of Poland’s sweet icons, the chocolate wafer cake. The signature of the founder’s son, Emil Wedel, is still handwritten on each one by individual chocolatiers. #MakersMark @pmj_photos #PMJWeeklyChallenge

Word that’s making me smile today: høststemning. This untranslatable Norwegian word captures the sense of peace, coziness, and nostalgia that autumn can bring — taking long walks as brilliantly coloured leaves drift down, harvesting apples, and lighting a fire in the fireplace.

At the Deichman Bjørvika public library in Oslo, the books are displayed on illuminated shelves, as if they were objects of wonder — which, of course, they are. ✨
