This morning I built a test harness for @lightningcss to run the Web Platform Tests – the same tests used by browser engines.
It extracts over 24,000 CSS parsing test cases, and verifies that Lightning CSS can correctly parse, transform, and minify each one. Then it takes the compiled CSS and verifies that it still passes the original test in a browser.
Also built this cool dashboard to dive into the test failures. This will be super helpful for discovering edge cases and missing features! Already got some work to do. 😅

Looks like Vite 8 is using Lightning CSS as the default CSS minifier! Most next-generation build tools are now using it, including Turbopack, Rspack, Tailwind, Parcel, Bun (a port), and now Vite. ⚡️

Lightning CSS v1.27.0 is out! ⚡️
Adds a [content-hash] pattern for CSS modules, enabling multiple versions of a library to coexist without conflicts.
Implements "pure mode" for CSS modules, which enforces each rule to be locally scoped with at least one id or class selector. Thanks @kdy1dev!
Also improves selector parser error messages and fixes some bugs. Thanks to everyone who contributed! 😍

The next version of Lightning CSS will be able to down-level the light-dark() function using some CSS variable fallback tricks! This lets you implement dark mode without writing any media queries, and programmatically switch themes just by changing the `color-scheme` property. 🤯
ALT Input CSS sets `color-scheme: dark light` on the `:root`, and overrides it to light or dark based on the data-theme attribute. The `.foo` selector sets `color: light-dark(yellow, green)`. The output CSS adds definitions for the `--lightningcss-light` and `--lightningcss-dark` variables wherever `color-scheme` is set. When light, `--lightningcss-light` is set to `initial`, and when dark it is set to whitespace. The color is compiled to ` var(--lightningcss-light, #ff0) var(--lightningcss-dark, green)` so that variable fallback generates the right value based on the theme.
