The biggest barrier to trying a custom CPU? Installing the toolchain.
Nobody wants to git clone and build complex binaries just to test a small ISA.
So for my CPU (Mrav), I moved the tooling into the browser.
I wrote the assembler in Go. Using WASM, I run the exact same logic on the web as I do on the CLI.
The workflow is simple:
Write: Core logic in Go.
Expose: Use syscall/js to bind functions to the window.
Build: Use Bazel's go_cross_binary to target wasm_js.
Now, anyone can write Mrav assembly and generate machine code instantly. Zero install.
Here is the step-by-step breakdown of how this works 🔗: popovicu.com/posts/running-g…

After months of testing and tweaking, I'm extremely happy to finally show off sbc.compare to the world! 🥹
80 boards are available now, and more are on the way. List by benchmark, SBC vendor, or SoC vendor/model 📊
Lots still to do, but let me know what you think 🥰

epoll wait support for io_uring. This may seem like an odd thing, but it's handy for mixed use cases or event loop conversions. See the cover letter linked below for details:

Working on my SoC has given me a deep, hands-on understanding of how Unix truly operates. I delved into the intricate layers of protection mechanisms, interrupt handling, virtual memory management, and the seamless interplay between hardware and software. This experience has been both challenging and rewarding, as it required tackling complex system-level concepts and bridging the gap between hardware and software design.

Posted the current version of uncached read/write IO. This version has been run through xfstests and passes all test cases, and I've added btrfs support as well (ext4/xfs already there).
tldr - predictable cached IO, without the pain points of O_DIRECT.

Uncached buffered IO is back, after a 5 year hiatus. Simpler and cleaner now. Up to 65-75% improvement, at half the CPU usage on my system. And none of the nonsense of the unpredictability of the page cache. See commit 1 and 3 for read/write perf data.
