Hi friends! First time posting here since the pandemic.
Over the past 10 years: left Apple, designed the first Oculus Quest, led product and brand design at Caffeine, then went independent. I run a design studio now called Our Mutual Friend.
What did I miss? 🙃
Really enjoyed joining @soniabaschez to talk about partnerships in an era of low trust and high expectations.
We covered recent moves from Meta, A24, Universal, and Amble, and it was a treat connecting the dots.
Thanks for the dream chat, Sonia! ✨
this week on meme team: brand partnerships!
🕶️meta couldn't solve the privacy problem with their glasses, so they hired kylie jenner to pull attention away. on some level it worked bc we both thought it was a good campaign until the ad made obvious all the privacy concerns
🎞️a24 let google deepmind announce their $75m collab and then had to defend themselves from everyone calling them AI shills. they're naive, complicit, or worse both
also: universal is skipping influencer screenings for nolan's the odyssey. film critics are ecstatic but lia makes a good point that influencers skew female while film critics skew 70%+ male... make of that what you will
shout out to @lianaps on this great convo!

On Wednesday, I tried to convince an audience at #Config that a 1970 avant-garde production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream had relevance to their day-to-day lives. It was a blast and I wanted to share a few things that didn’t make it into the talk.

“We cannot expect the averaging machine to produce anything other than averages.” — Kim Beverett, OpenAI,
delivering the best #config talk on how what what this revolution in technology and design needs is not AI, but designers who "make choices that show who you are."
Yes!💖
Damn the IKEA PS 2026 line is so good. I do not need new furniture but look at these!
I'm getting HAY, Mario Bellini, Memphis, 2LG Studio vibes — it's so much dopamine and I love it
Just wrapped a two-week sprint with a Series A company, and I really love this format for strategy, product, brand, and fundraising.
Way more productive than teams hitting walls seeing how far AI gets them, and faster to a lasting direction vs. waiting to hire the perfect team.
2¢ — I think it hurts creators and companies to elicit AI aversion, let alone for people to experience it constantly. Looking away can mean missing an insight or some hidden value, but I'm not convinced that self-protection is a personal deficiency for users to fix.
Whenever I see AI stylistic saturation at play (tiny text, "not this, it's that") my nervous system responds as if it's fending off an invader

Star Wars was religion when I was a kid, so we watched A New Hope with my 4yo for the first time for Mother’s Day.
He cried when the Death Star exploded, then yelled “yay!” when he realized Vader got away… should I be worried cc @settern @reneritchie
I did a Hack Week project on Highlights at Medium. Inline text selection as instant save and signal — like Genius, SoundCloud, Kindle.
I'd love this as AI and OS standard. Right now key text gets lost in a sea, or pasted out. Would be smart to save core memories inline for free.
Lately I’ve been watching my children play with physical pixels and going to the AI-inspired ballet with friends. Neither of these are nature, both are wonderful
Initial observation on being back: oh wow this is definitely 1:1 with LinkedIn on AI being the 99% discussed topic. How are we all feeling? How is touching grass going for everyone here 🍃☀️
