For me #TheServerlessBook is the culmination of all the mistakes, lessons and realisations from the past 5 years of working on enterprise-grade AWS serverless software.
It is the book I wish I’d had on my desk in 2019 when I was leading my first serverless engineering team
Big day today: #TheServerlessBook is out! ✨

Some architectures we discussed were directly inspired by the brilliant layouts from the book 'Serverless Development on AWS' by @sheenbrisals and @level_out. Such a great resource! 📒

Still one of the most compelling and interesting serverless use cases, Luc talking us thru PostNL’s cloud journey @ServerlessCWL. Christmas is just another day for this guy! Spikes, what spikes?
Who is going to ServerlessDays Cardiff this week!? @ServerlessCWL

A few MUST read books about architecture:
👉 Learning Systems Thinking
👉 Head First Software Architecture
👉 Serverless Development on AWS
👉 Learning Domain-Driven Design
👉 Building Event-Driven Microservices
👉 Designing Distributed Systems.
Any other for my bookshelve?
Such a good point! Also helps to view all those early decisions through the one-way/two-way door lens. Some you can reverse out of as you learn more and evolve the system, some you are stuck with forever. Try to delay one-way decisions for as long as possible
We build knowledge over time, but most of our system decisions are made at the start.
That’s why we need to build systems that can evolve over time.
well said @boyney123 👏
This is pretty wild stuff! Really cool for automated data pipelines and message stream processing
you can now get data from auth'd APIs with @duckdb
🤯
ya know, to get your stripe data or whatever
(it's not documented yet)
The #ServerlessBook now has a quiz at the end of each chapter! What's the right answer!? 🫦
Woah this @humble bundle is packed full of top notch books humblebundle.com/books/softw… (including mine! 😜)
In particular, Practical Process Automation by @berndruecker is soooo good. A must-read if you are implementing complex workflows on distributed systems

An entertaining @GOTOcon recording session with Khawaja and Luke on the content of #TheServerlessBook, where it started from, what are the case studies, who is it for, and more!

What drives orgs to pay 10x markup on AWS? The UI? Lack of cheaper alternative? Knowledge?

Vercel has 500 employees and is making a bet on their AI product because I think they see the writing on the wall that their model of putting a 10x markup on AWS was going to zero eventually. Vercel has to be a $7B company by the end of the decade to break even on that $250m and I’m skeptical.
Also a good chance that a fair chunk of the $57m was key people taking money off the table (I really hope this is the case)
Just 3 serverless enthusiasts chatting away freely! I was so relaxed I kind of forgot I'd be recorded happily drinking my tea
