Preventing burnout starts with knowing what NOT to take on. Pay attention to how what you're doing makes you feel. Recognize the types of activities and responsibilities that consistently drain you — even when you have the technical skills to do them well. Those draining activities are often linked to your lowest Motivations. They reflect aspects of work that don't light you up, regardless of your capability. Burnout is almost inevitable when your activities are dominated by your lowest Motivations. But you can't always avoid these tasks. Sometimes you're stuck with projects that don't align with your motivational pattern. 🔥 The trick? Change how you approach them.  → Modify your environment.  → Pair draining tasks with something energizing.  → Rethink the purpose or outcome. You can make small tweaks to change the entire dynamic of your work for the better.  Would love to hear your tricks for getting those tasks that don't fire you up done!

Can vouch, having experienced this firsthand. It’s also what the MotivationCode.com/assessmen… reveals… what precisely sparks that light in you. Every founder should take it. And then have their team take it, too!
Generally reason founders burn out - working on things you feel obligated to do but hate vs things you love

If you've taken the MCode assessment yourself and felt the "scary accurate" recognition that so many people describe, you already have the experience that makes certification compelling. You know firsthand what it's like to read words that describe your wiring with a specificity nothing else has matched, and you know the shift that happens when someone has language for why they do what they do. The natural next step is bringing that experience to your clients. Certification gives you the framework knowledge, the assessment fluency, and the trained ability to facilitate the same recognition for the people you coach. You start with self-paced training in the Motivation Code framework, the 32 Motivations, and the 8 Dimensions, then move to mentored practice with an MCode Mentor who observes your sessions and gives you feedback as you develop your competence. You leave with a credential, a directory listing, and the ability to facilitate Impact Sessions and Team Workshops with full confidence. For coaches ready to bring MCode into their practice, the certification is built for exactly this transition:  motivationcode.com/mcode-coa…

I read that writers are adding typos on purpose to prove they're not AI. But “intentional imperfection” takes 10 seconds to fake. And an em dash isn't some sort of “tell.” What makes writing human isn't the flaws. It's the writer. shawnhesketh.com/too-perfect…

When a manager and a direct report keep clashing, everyone assumes the manager is the problem, and the manager usually assumes the report is. Most of the time, it comes down to fit, meaning how that manager leads compared with how that particular person is wired. Managers get set up to miss this. 🧠 The Chartered Management Institute found that 82% of people who move into management get no formal training at all. We promote people for being excellent at their work, hand them a team, and expect the ability to read another human's motivations to arrive with the new title. What happens next is the part that costs companies the most money. 👉 When a pairing fails, the company writes it up as a bad hire, and that costs you twice, because you lose the person and you also learn the wrong lesson from losing them. So, you tighten the hiring criteria around the wrong variable, rewrite the job description, raise the bar, and go find someone with a stronger resume who happens to be wired the same way, reports to the same manager, and gets managed exactly the same way. Then everybody acts surprised when it falls apart again. The failure looks like a talent problem, so it keeps getting solved with talent, and the thing that caused it never gets touched. Give a manager a clear read on how each person on their team is motivated, what fuels their best work, and what drains them, and the friction they've white-knuckled for six months tends to sort itself out in a couple of conversations. The person you were getting ready to manage out becomes the person who stays five more years. If you know someone who got promoted into management this year and got no training with it, send this to them.

For years, I couldn't have told you what energized me at work. The days just blurred together… until I burned out. That's why I built the Alignment Quiz. It shows how aligned your work is with how you're wired. Take it when you have 5 quiet minutes: shawnhesketh.com/alignment-q…

Ollie AI is here! We're doing things a little different (as usual). Instead of a bulky AI thing that aims to do everything, we're taking a more measured approach by layering AI into the features you already love. High-caliber design 🤝 AI superpowers

The most expensive sentence in your business might be: “I can do that, too.” As a founder, I wore too many hats for more than two decades. I didn't see what it was really costing me... until I burned out. One question could have prevented that: shawnhesketh.com/wearing-too…

Hey friends, I've got a little gift for you. If you're seeing this, I want you to take the MCode today... for free. Why? Because I believe it’ll help you understand what makes you tick—why certain activities light you up while others completely drain you. You’ll find the threads that have run through every meaningful moment in your life—so you can do more of what energizes you and less of what doesn’t. I know. You've taken assessments before. Here's the thing... Most assessments only reveal your personality traits or even your strengths. They don't tell you WHY. MCode goes much deeper—it uncovers your unique motivational pattern that creates satisfaction, purpose, and meaning. Then it gives you a roadmap to align your work, relationships, and goals with what energizes you most. If you... • feel like your work is burning you out, • need more purpose and energy in your work or relationships, • want to understand what motivates you in a clear, confident way, • or simply need language for what makes you tick... Here's your invite to take the MCode—on me! 🎁 Use coupon code: FRIENDSOFSHAWN 💯 Get your MCode Lite report for FREE 👉 Start here: motivationcode.com/pricing/

Remember when the #1 reason people cited for choosing WordPress over other platforms was, “Ease of use”? For many years, it was the top reason given in responses to the annual WordPress user survey. Those were the days, huh?
