I have an *old* external HD that I want to recover data from. I found several sketchy websites for data recovery software, but would love some tech tried and trusted ones that can make miracles. Suggestions?

In the latest episode of On Rails, @robbyrussell is joined by @tenderlove from Rails Core and @Shopify's Ruby & Rails Infrastructure team. Aaron and Robby chat about how the team at Shopify has been making Ractors faster and more reliable, bringing true multi-core parallelism to Ruby, plus how and when you should actually use them. They also cover Aaron's proposal to RubyGems.org for content-addressable gems, which could make `bundle install` dramatically faster, and the real reasons gems reach for native C extensions in the first place. Entrepreneurship has no zip code. @Shopify merchants outside major cities generated $2.9 billion in cross-border sales last year. Up 342% since 2019. And new shop creation outside metro areas is rising in every country we tracked. Ambition used to need an address. Now it just needs an internet connection. shopify.com/news/rural-comme…

As a blind programmer, this is one of the most meaningful things I've worked on! I'd love your thoughts on the PR, especially if you've never thought about a11y. People new to it catch what I could be taking for granted. Thanks to the Rails Foundation for the trust ❤️
New in the Rails docs: The Rails Accessibility Guide covers everything you need to build inclusive apps: semantic HTML, ARIA, screen reader behavior, keyboard navigation, and legal requirements like WCAG 2.2. Written by @brunoprietog, commissioned by the Rails Foundation, and ready for your input. If you have experience in making Rails apps more accessible and want to help others do the same, please review the PR here: github.com/rails/rails/pull/…

This Week in Rails: A new `rails query` command lands: run read-only ActiveRecord queries from the command line and get structured JSON output with columns, rows, pagination metadata, query time, and generated SQL. Subcommands include `query schema`, `query models`, and `query explain`. Also: static CSS and HTML files now include `charset=utf-8` in Content-Type, new Rails apps get a PWA offline fallback page, and ParameterFilter gains O(1) hash lookup for exact-match regexp filters. Read all that and more in this week's newsletter: rubyonrails.org/2026/4/17/th…

Ruby on Rails scales from PROMPT to IPO. Token-efficient code that's easy for agents to write, and still beautiful for humans to review. rubyonrails.org

I benchmarked which language works best with Claude Code. Ruby, Python, and JavaScript came out cheapest, fastest, and most stable! See my article in detail: dev.to/mame/which-programmin…

Convention over configuration set the path for 20+ years of great training data for AI to use today. Not only does this mean agents do great with Rails, but also that squishy humans can quickly and confidently review the output without a jungle of distracting boilerplate.
I think people are sleeping a bit on how much Ruby on Rails + Claude Code is a *crazy unlock* - I mean Rails was designed for people who love syntactic sugar, and LLMs are sugar fiends.

Looking forward to trying this one out! Cursor's visual editor was a miss. We have tried WYSIWYG HTML editors for decades, they never worked, and it isn't an AI problem. Figma showed the way to go and Pencil builds on that with an open file format and agent-aware extensions.🚀
Excited to launch Pencil INFINITE DESIGN CANVAS for Claude Code > Superfast WebGL canvas, fully editable, running parallel design agents > Runs locally with Claude Code → turn designs into code > Design files live in your git repo → Open json-based .pen format

There's been a massive spike in sales emails that get basic details wrong, like the company I work for, *to my business email*. That's poor strategy *and* execution. Latest one was selling me a product so I can manage "my international team @37signals" (@dhh forwarding that to you lol jk). For all sales folks out there: please do better. That's an immediate pass for me, doesn't matter what you're selling.

Shopify is building the foundation for agentic commerce. Universal Commerce Protocol, which we co-developed with Google, is now live. UCP will make it faster for agents and retailers to integrate. It’s open by default, so platforms and agents can use UCP to start transacting with any merchant. Major retailers are already using it. Agents can handle everything from discovery to fulfillment, and support things like discounts, subscriptions, and loyalty programs. We’ve accounted for all types of commerce.
