Sorry but what does an anthropologist know about anorexia nervosa? There are already fears that chronic anorexics are being pushed towards palliative care, because recovery takes so long and isn’t guaranteed anyway. But there *is* always hope. Honestly, this whole thing stinks
1/ In today’s committee, witnesses with no expertise in eating disorders made inaccurate statements that went unchecked & unchallenged. MPs and the public were misled about the risks this bill poses to people with eating disorders. Let’s look at the facts. 🧵👇

A few moments after MPs voted for assisted dying, the Government Whip on duty objected to and blocked the Children’s Hospices (Funding) Bill.

It’s lucky we have a famously competent state, a well-funded health service, & courts with plenty of time on their hands, or I’d be worrying that this is a terrible decision

Today’s column was about how my mother’s long illness shaped my view on assisted dying, but perhaps not in the direction you’d assume. thetimes.com/article/5050a7b…

You go ahead and boycott whatever you want to for whatever reasons you think make it right. This is a free country after all. Meanwhile, I’ve reviewed an Israeli restaurant. Israeli food, Israeli culture, Israeli owned. And it was marvellous. thetimes.com/article/1456f70…

This is genuinely terrifying. And the idea that Family Court judges have loads of spare capacity to hear 400 applications EACH per year, and that this will be an effective safeguard, is literally incredible.
Less than 3 weeks before it's due to be debated, Kim Leadbeater MP has finally published the text of her assisted suicide bill. It's 38 pages long, has 43 clauses and 6 schedules. MPs will have a maximum of five hours to debate it. bills.parliament.uk/bills/37…

“Assisted dying” is a euphemism which puts one person’s role in intentionally ending another’s life in a benign and positive light. It obscures the truth that a law enabling it would profoundly shift the boundary of exculpation for responsibility for the death of another person

This is my position. Assisted dying has no place in an underfunded system & any bill on it has to be subject the maximum possible scrutiny as it confers extraordinary new powers theguardian.com/commentisfre…
