Healthcare does not just belong to the doctor; it directly affects every Kenyan. Actually, a doctor's working condition is a direct reflection of a patient’s outcome 🏥
⚕️ #KMPDU | A WEEKEND OF DELIBERATIONS, RESOLUTIONS AND A UNANIMOUS ENDORSEMENT OF DR DAVJI ATELLAH FOR LANG’ATA MP
Doctors Urge SG Davji: “Take Our Advocacy Beyond the Negotiating Table.”
From the National Advisory Council (NAC) and National Executive Council (NEC) meetings to committee deliberations and today’s Leadership Meeting in Naivasha, KMPDU leaders, branch representatives and international labour leaders came together to review progress, address outstanding matters and chart the way forward.
The Leadership Meeting featured contributions from invited guests representing Zambia, Ghana, the USA and Public Services International (PSI), alongside KMPDU’s national leadership. The programme culminated in the State of the Union Address and a media briefing.
Key resolutions from the NEC deliberations addressed doctors’ medical cover, outstanding salary adjustments, pending Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs), promotions, recognition agreements and Ebola preparedness, among other issues.
The Union also put 29 counties on notice over outstanding basic salary adjustments, resolving to withdraw services from 7 November 2026 if the adjustments remain unimplemented.
The weekend also saw doctors unanimously endorse KMPDU Secretary General and CEO, Dr Davji Atellah, for the Lang’ata parliamentary seat. The endorsement reflected a call to extend advocacy for doctors’ welfare beyond the negotiating table and into Parliament, where policies affecting the profession and the future of healthcare are debated.
As the meetings conclude, attention now turns to implementation, with follow-up actions set to guide the Union’s engagement with county governments and other relevant institutions.
#KMPDU #DoctorsWelfare #DignityFairnessCare
Today, we held the Fourth Quarter National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU), following the April 2026 elections that ushered in our leadership for the 2026–2031 term.
The meeting brought together union officials representing branches across the country to review branch and national reports, assess the state of the union, address pending matters, and reflect on our progress and priorities.
As we begin this five-year mandate, our commitment remains clear: to strengthen our union, protect the rights and welfare of doctors, and advance the interests of our members through collective leadership, accountability, and decisive action.
Our responsibility is to deliver results, uphold the dignity of the medical profession, and ensure that no doctor is left behind.
This weekend, KMPDU’s NEC, NAC and Committees come together to fulfil their respective #constitutional responsibilities and advance the interests of the doctors they represent.
A Union guided by its Constitution. A leadership united by a shared mandate.

📊 Public healthcare is measured not merely by policy pronouncements, but by the care people can access when they need it.
#MombasaCare’s provision of free healthcare throughout October is a tangible step towards improving access to care and one worth recognising.
For KMPDU, constructive engagement means acknowledging progress where it is made, addressing gaps where they persist, and keeping doctors’ welfare and the public interest at the heart of healthcare policy.
Progress deserves recognition. Accountability remains essential.

Our engagement with the Governor of Mombasa County, alongside the KMPDU Coast Branch leadership, was an opportunity to discuss what matters most to healthcare workers: their welfare, working conditions, and professional growth.
Behind every patient who receives care is a healthcare worker who deserves to work in a safe, supportive environment, be treated fairly, and have the opportunity to grow professionally. We cannot talk about quality healthcare without also talking about the people who make it possible.
We welcome Mombasa County’s Mwezi wa Baba initiative, which offers free healthcare services in honour of the late Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga and his enduring vision of Universal Health Coverage.
We also welcome the Governor’s commitment to have the remaining 17 consultants promoted by Monday next week and to transition all healthcare workers engaged on contract during the free healthcare month to permanent and pensionable terms. These are important commitments, and we look forward to seeing them translated into action.
As a Union, we remain firm in our belief that a strong healthcare system begins with taking care of its people. When healthcare workers are supported, respected, and given the conditions they need to serve, patients and communities benefit too. @kmpdu

Huge congratulations to Dr. Dennis Miskellah( @MiskellahMD ) on your appointment as Trustee of the Local Authorities Provident Fund (LAPFUND)!
You assume this role at a critical moment, with counties owing over Ksh 100B in unremitted pension contributions. I am confident you will champion strict compliance and ensure workers' hard-earned savings are fully safeguarded.
Wishing you a successful and impactful 3-year tenure!
🌔 #MweziWaBaba and #MombasaCare 🛡️ were among the key discussion points during this week’s KMPDU engagement with Mombasa County on doctors’ welfare.
KMPDU National Secretary General Dr. @Davji and Mombasa Branch Secretary Dr. Ghalib Salim held discussions with Mombasa County leadership on doctors’ welfare, working conditions and professional development.
The meeting also highlighted KMPDU’s support for Mwezi wa Baba, Mombasa County’s month-long initiative providing free healthcare services across county hospitals in honour of His Excellency, the late Right Honourable Raila Odinga, and his vision for universal healthcare.
KMPDU recognises that investing in doctors’ welfare and working conditions is essential to strengthening healthcare delivery and advancing Universal Health Coverage.

Dr. Kahura Mundia: For now, let us try containing what we have. The world has failed DRC. If we controlled and contained the disease in DRC, then we would not be here months later.

Yesterday evening in Karen, I had the opportunity to meet opinion leaders, delegates and residents from across Karen Ward.
The conversations were open and honest. People shared their concerns, the challenges facing their communities and what they would like to see done differently.
I listened. I took note.
Some issues require immediate attention, while others will inform the plans and priorities we are putting together for Lang’ata.
I also shared my thoughts on the work ahead and encouraged residents to remain engaged, speak up and be part of shaping the future of our constituency.
What stood out was the energy in the room and the willingness of people to have a candid conversation about their community.
Thank you to everyone who came out, shared their views and gave me the opportunity to listen.
This is the kind of leadership I believe in, leadership that starts by listening to the people.
The conversation continues.
