🚨NEW BULLS GOLD
Ed and I had @SwishTheory co-founders @_LarroHoops and @klahoops join us to give their thoughts on the Bulls off-season so far.
Give it a listen if you get a chance.

Nearly all criticisms I’ve seen of analytics come from a fundamental misunderstanding of what analytics are.
Not sure I understand the "analytics doesn't work in the playoffs" stuff.
At the end of the day, analytics are just all about trying to figure out how to get the most efficient shots for the team and talent that you possess while stopping the opposition from doing the same, and then winning the possession game. Think all of the teams remaining attempt to do this in some way, shape or form.

these are the 15 highest frequency (percentage of team possessions) drivers in the 2026 draft class, alongside their efficiency on those drives, according to synergy

Interestingly enough, Swish nailed Chicago as the best fits for Wilson and Swain.
Bryson is a Swish Head confirmed? 😳

For 53 years, the Knicks showed how painful sports can be. And then they showed how beautiful the payoff is.
This one is worth reading. My column on the Knicks' championship:

One of my least favorite playoff traditions is projecting grand unified theories of basketball from the finals, as if star players can be easily replicated, when very few finals teams play anything alike
An anonymous Western Conference scout says Jalen Brunson has brought back the prototype of a small guard who can lead a team
“Brunson has kind of brought back the smaller, scoring, tough physical point guard that can lead a team. And Acuff has some of those traits. He might even have a little more.”

It used to be the bottom 5 teams that tanked.
People complained about Philly, so the odds were flattened, resulting in the bottom 10 teams tanking.
Now the “solution” is to incentivize teams 7~16 to tank, but hey, the bottom five teams will try harder? Yay?

Hey Congrats Stephen!
Big Time hire by the Bulls
An integral part of Orlando's front office for years, and kickstarted the Tulane Pro Basketball Negotiation Competition, a cool idea for live front office simulations
Asked around about Mervis and here's what I heard.
-Extremely smart executive
-Strong in trade negotiations and general strategy
-Well-connected with other execs throughout the league
Seems like a great hire for the Bulls.

Really excellent hire by Bryson. Mervis is one of the smartest execs in the game.

Fascinated by debate in Chicago around Boozer/Wilson. Theres this perception Boozer is safe, Wilson has upside since CW is more athletic. Better case right now that skill/intangibles (shotmaking, footwork, processing) create more upside than speed/bounce. CB full year younger too

Biggest takeaway from Bryson Graham's presser:
It's easy to see why the Bulls hired him. Brutally honest guy with excellent communication skills. Made clear that he will build from the ground up and add a lot of voices to the room.
Long road to go, but a great first impression.

Feels like a both things can be true situation for the Bulls: 1) Billy Donovan was a really good coach, and it will be difficult to upgrade on him with this next hire, and 2) cleaning house was probably in their best interest to align the next GM/coach on the best long-term plan.
There are bad GMs, and then there's Arturas Karnisovas. The worst decision-maker in the league was way overdue to get fired:
