The revolution in my Chinese apartment community has succeeded. 🇨🇳 The management company has been overthrown. The cars are disappearing. The pedestrians have reclaimed the streets. Unfortunately, the running track appears to have been destroyed in the fighting. Vive la Révolution! Let me explain. Some months ago, I reported a small revolution taking place in our apartment community here in Wenzhou. It began with a parking fee. Residents had been paying 50 RMB a month to park their cars in the underground car park. Then the management company decided to increase the fee to 120 RMB. The residents were not amused. So they revolted. Instead of paying the increased fee, they brought their cars out of the underground car park and parked them along the roads and pedestrian areas of our community. Cars everywhere. Our pleasant residential neighbourhood began to resemble a rather badly organised car park. There were arguments. The police were called in to mediate. Eventually, management offered to reduce the fee to 60 RMB. But by then, the revolution had gathered momentum. The residents organised a vote to remove the management company altogether. And won. Out went the old management. In came a new company. Vive la Révolution! Unfortunately, removing the management company proved rather easier than removing the cars. For a while, our pedestrian areas remained full of vehicles. But now things are changing. The cars are gradually disappearing, and the roads through our community appear to be returning to the pedestrians. There are even concrete blocks helping to keep the cars out. Victory at last! Except that I've noticed one small problem. We have a blue running track running through parts of the community. Or rather, we used to have something that resembled a running track. It's now cracking, peeling and disintegrating in great sheets. In places, the surface has practically disappeared. I've taken some photographs. It looks less like somewhere to go for a healthy morning jog and more like an abandoned airport runway. So there we are. The cars are retreating. The pedestrians have reclaimed their territory. But the ground beneath their feet appears to be surrendering. I suppose every revolution has its unintended consequences. As for my daily exercise, perhaps I'll have to take up running on a treadmill. At least the ground wouldn't disappear beneath my feet. Vive la Révolution!

Our take: China unveils draft export controls on AI and chips * Models >2T or ranked top 10 globally now need approval to release weights and source codes; access remain * Chip design technology incl stacking and networking now on the list as.ft.com/r/b503f90a-7bca-47…
MofCom & MIIT just confirmed our earlier scoop with a full update of export controls on AI, semiconductor, healthcare etc : google.com/url?q=https://www…

中国の輸出が爆発的な拡大だが、貿易摩擦の圧力もさらに拡大。 欧州相手に譲歩してでも貿易"戦争"を回避したのも、反発が危険な水準に達していることを中国政府も認識しているからではないか。 私の見立て:「輸出半減」案を飲んだ中国、中欧貿易協議を読み解く kotatakaguchi.substack.com/p…
CHINA'S EXPORT BOOM IS EXPLODING—BUT FOREIGN DEMAND IS MASKING DOMESTIC WEAKNESS China's September 2026 export growth across major markets was extraordinary: 🇹🇼 Taiwan: +68.5% 🇰🇷 South Korea: +68.2% ASEAN: +52.3% Russia: +51.1% India: +47.5% 🇺🇸 United States: +39.6% 🇦🇺 Australia: +37% 🇨🇦 Canada: +31% 🇬🇧 United Kingdom: +28% 🇪🇺 European Union: +25.3% But the real story isn't China's economic strength. South Korea's surge is heavily driven by AI-related shipments, while America's rebound partly reflects favorable comparisons following 2025 tariff disruptions. China is increasingly dependent on foreign technology investment and overseas consumers to absorb its industrial output. YCC Capital's assessment: Strong exports are concealing structural vulnerabilities in China's domestic economy. The greater China's dependence on external demand, the more exposed its manufacturers become to semiconductor cycles, trade restrictions, and geopolitical shocks. Export growth is not economic resilience.

At 23yo, I moved into a Chinese factory to build hardware for my first startup. That’s where I got my Chinese name: 杜无敌 (Duwudi). “Du the Invincible.” Eleven years later, I’m still in Shenzhen. Apparently I haven’t suffered enough. Along the way: $40M raised, 500K+ custom products shipped and a Guinness World Record for the world’s first 3D-printed laptop. Now I run Powerhouse out of an old factory, helping other founders get from idea to mass production at Shenzhen speed. Ideally with fewer expensive lessons than I had. We’re also launching a hardware accelerator, and I’m writing my first angel cheque. The plan: build and back the next generation of hardware companies. I share what building hardware here actually looks like: prototypes, production problems, factory life and robots behaving badly. Who should I be following in hardware, physical AI and robotics? If that’s you, say hello 👋

Tariffs for EVs, a safeguard for hybrids: Europe’s defenses. After the 2024 duties, EU imports of Chinese EVs held flat at about 430k a year. Hybrids jumped from 46k in 2023 to 302k in 2025, then hit 378k in Jan–Jul 2026, already above the new 350k cap. Link below
