The Lagos State "seafood" market is poorly regulated. The hammerhead shark is a protected specie. They also have high levels of mercury and natural ammonia, which makes them toxic for human consumption. We also have a Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, watching while unregulated fishing ruins our marine biology. Under the Endangered Species Conservation and Protection Bill 2025, this guy should get a fine of 12m Naira or 10 years' imprisonment. @Abi_Olusanya

Across West Africa, vultures are disappearing fast, driven by poisoning, hunting, habitat loss and harmful beliefs. In Anambra, Nigeria, one man known as the “King of Vultures” is fighting to save them and change how communities see these vital birds.

🐘 How many elephants are left in Nigeria—and what happens if we lose them? Elephants are more than iconic wildlife. They are ecosystem engineers that help sustain forests, biodiversity and healthy landscapes. Yet Nigeria’s remaining elephants face increasing threats from habitat loss, human-elephant conflict and wildlife trafficking. For #WorldElephantDay, join @environewsng, @ncfnigeria and @WildAfricaOrg for an important conversation with Dr. @kikiegbe and Dr. @saintmarkvet on the future of elephants in Nigeria, and what we can do to protect them. 📅 Saturday, August 15, 2026 ⏰ 6:00 PM WAT 📍 X Spaces 🔗 Set a reminder and join here: xitter.cf/i/spaces/1aKbdEdjZPrJX

#WildlifeWednesday There’s a lots going on in this video but the predator-prey moment definitely caught our attention. Crocodiles are masters of camouflage, slowly sneaking up on their prey before striking. But this time, the fish were one step ahead. Before this crocodile could make its move, the fish had already pulled off the ultimate escape. Fish have a special sensory system called “lateral line” that helps them detect tiny movements and vibrations in the water. It just goes to show that even the ultimate ambush predator doesn’t win every time. Moments like this may look like a movie scene, but it’s just another day in a healthy wetland ecosystem. Every species, predators or prey, plays a crucial role in keeping nature balanced. Now tell us: Who were you rooting for here; the stealthy croc or the speedy fish? Let us know below! 👇 🎥 captured at Lekki Conservation Centre, a protected habitat helping to preserve biodiversity and maintain ecological balance. #NCF #NatureConservation #LekkiConservationCentre #Biodiversity @WWF @WWF_Africa @UNBiodiversity @FMEnvng @KeyBiodiversity @arojinle1 @Estizzy4 @USFWS

Omo Forest Reserve, one of Nigeria’s biodiversity hotspots in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, is a centre of attraction for different reasons, but it's in decline. The decline in vulture populations in Nigeria is due to multiple threats; from habitat loss to poisoning and harmful traditional practices. These threats are wiping out nature’s clean-up crew, leaving our environment and health at risk. It’s crucial that we work together, support conservation efforts, and safeguard their future, because protecting vultures means protecting our ecosystems too. #NCF #VultureAwarenessDay #IVAD #Vulture #VultureConservation #SaveVultures #ProtectWildlife #NatureSanitaryOfficers #WildlifeInNigeria
