Mona Monkey at Lekki Conservation Centre, Lagos.
These are the same specie of monkeys that are found in Unilag.
Infact, those Mona Monkeys in Unilag were living there before the Government brought the school to their space….
So when Unilag was established in 1962, the school met the monkeys on their own territory, not the other way round.
That is why Unilag remains arguably the only urban university in Nigeria where monkeys still share academic space with humans.

VIDEO: Okun-Igando residents rescue Sea Turtle trapped in fish net, return it to ocean
Residents of Okun-Igando in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, have rescued a sea turtle that became trapped in a fish farmer’s net and safely returned it to the Atlantic Ocean.
The incident took place during routine farming activities when the farmer discovered the unusual aquatic animal caught in his small net.
Acting quickly, community members, led by the Baale of Okun-Igando, Hon. (Chief) Semiu Waliu Jejelaiye, carefully freed the stranded sea turtle and released it back into the ocean in a rare display of environmental awareness and care for marine life.

At Okomu National Park in Edo State, a bold community-driven conservation experiment is redefining forest protection.
By recruiting and training local residents as forest rangers and establishing a community savings scheme, the initiative is reducing dependence on illegal logging and wildlife poaching while restoring the park’s fragile ecosystem.
Discover how people living around Okomu are becoming key players in safeguarding one of Nigeria’s last tropical rainforests in this new investigative report: bit.ly/okomu-park

Agbaibor, Nigeria’s first surviving rescued orphan elephant, was found alone near Okomu National Park at about eight months old. The critically endangered forest elephant nearly died but is now thriving under round-the-clock care.
His chief keeper, Joshua Aribasoye, has become the “mother” he runs to. The goal is to gradually reduce human contact and return Agbaibor to the wild once he is old enough to live independently.

Elephants at Okomu National Park in then Mid Western region Nigeria used to wander near local routes, prompting colonial officials to place these historical roadside warnings about elephant crossings.
These critically endangered forest elephants remain elusive inside the remaining protected rainforest.
Okomu National Park is located in Okomu National Park within the Ovia South-West Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria, near Udo town and a short distance west of Benin City.
Does the park still have elephants?
Yes, the park still protects a rare and important population of endangered African forest elephants, though direct sightings by casual visitors are very rare because the animals are shy and elusive.
