Very sad to hear this. My favourite podcast. Thank you for the excellent journalism Roland. I hope you get to continue your work somehow. A while back I wrote a blog post in praise of the show: keybits.net/posts/my-favouri… Your interviewees saying 'exactly' is the highest praise.

In particular, give SvelteKit a try. It's wonderful. I built this with it: github.com/postowl/postowl

The protocol and software for Bluesky are all open source and the network is 'locked open'. It's worth exploring as atproto is interesting technology with wide application. It's also a lot more efficient from a network traffic and electricity usage perspective than Mastodon.
I'm curious about "We can’t afford pulling in ProseMirror or Lexical, as that would be too much Javascript to load for people who are just viewing, but not editing a page." If the site is dynamically generated e.g. by SvelteKit why not only load the editor for logged in users?

It very much feels like an SPA. Recommend giving it a try.
I can recommend @umami_software with excellent hosting for less than $1.20 a month with @PikaPods pikapods.com/apps

Just saw your blog post on this and remembered that the community there is very much in favour of allowing submissions from authors: lobste.rs/s/tnpfea/meta_coul… I wonder why mods didn't heed the weight of opinion?
I'm loving Zed. It's now my main text / code editor. As mentioned GPUI v2 is in the stable release since they went open source. I found this post fascinating: zed.dev/blog/120fps

This might be useful github.com/peterldowns/local…
GitButler looks interesting, but quite different from using Git directly. For me Sublime Merge is the perfect GUI layer over Git. Fast and unlimited free evaluation. (I previously use git-fork.com but prefer Sublime Merge).

I recently set up R2 for hosting my public files (inspired by static.swillison.net) and it's wonderfully straightforward. Give it a go - you'll be up and running on no time!

Hoping to have a hosted version available soon! I'll ping you when it's ready and perhaps we could make a video showing what it can do 😀🦉
