Separatists: “Why would you vote to remain? Can’t you see the Canadian federal government is incompetent and untrustworthy?”
Also: “We don’t have a plan for government but trust us. And don’t judge prospects based on crazy things proponents of independence say”

Such a good metaphor.
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith fed a stray cat, in hopes that it would go away. But stray cats don’t do that. Now she's in a world of trouble theglobeandmail.com/opinion/…

Canada is the hardest country I’ve worked in to get information or responses from government agencies. And I was in Dubai before this.
We have to demand better.

Alberta separatists expected 40 - 60% support. They got 25%, exactly where the polls had them.
Rick Bell says they spent the entire campaign talking to themselves.

perhaps my wildest take is that WFH is beneficial *because* it's isolating, meaning people can't fool themselves into thinking their work "friends" are sufficient and are nudged to actually cultivate a real life for themselves

Fun fact:
California and Alaska are closer to having a majority for secession than Alberta.
Alaska would be a great addition to Canada, so Carney and the Canadian government should encourage them to go ahead.
Just an observation but if you know Edmonton and Calgary, you’ll recognize the neighbourhoods with the highest proportion of visible minorities being the ones here most likely to vote No on, in this case, limiting supports to non-PRs.
Notice the x-axis. Only in 2 ridings did Option 2 barely push above 50 percent. Separatism is a decidedly minority position across this province.
This is interesting. Here is the support for Option 2 of Question 10 by riding:

True, but of course, nobody has a more superficial picture of "The Real Alberta" than disillusioned Ontarians. It's a "no zealot like the convert" phenomenon.
Alberta separatism is fuelled by a deeper disillusionment among some Canadian conservatives who increasingly see Alberta as a refuge from a country they no longer recognize. The movement is far from dead. Read my latest and subscribe to get 20% off. thefp.com/p/this-week-in-can…

There's potential for all nine non-separation questions in the Alberta referendum to flip from their current results. Special ballots for those questions are showing as "reported" but with zero votes posted because they counted Q10 first, followed by the others in order.
Conversely, there are some in the separatist movement who believed they would break 30% and are surprised this morning. For a movement that calls on listening to Albertans, they themselves could stand to do that more.

For most Albertans, Canada looks less like a constraint and more like a shield in an uncertain world.

Big cities voting stay in Canada by an overwhelming margin. Some ridings in Edmonton (like Edmonton-Manning) are voting by margins of over 90% to remain.
