Patriotism cannot only be about what we are against - it has to be a vision we are fighting for.
That vision is embodied by the tapestry of different cultures writ large across Finchley & Golders Green that creates a rich, proud, resilient British identity. (1/3)

Being a total idiot I left my black laptop bag on the tube on Thursday at around 9.10pm. It was on the High Barnet branch of northern line. It’s got my laptop and two recorders in it. If anybody has handed it on/picked it up, it would be amazing to get back. Please share

If Andy Burnham wants to make an appointment that would truly change the way government is viewed in the United Kingdom, he should immediately appoint Feargal Sharkey as his Environment Agency chief and give him real power to regulate our green and pleasant land.

NEW: @SadiqKhan has announced 5,000 more street trees in high heat-risk areas to help cool London.
Great to speak to @BBCLondon about the 640,000 trees planted since 2016, part of 8 million across London, helping cool temperatures by up to 6°C. Next: 10% more canopy by 2050 🌳

Solar panels are going up on schools across the country - including Bristol’s own Avonmouth Primary.
This Government is taking practical action to help schools generate their own clean electricity, reduce energy costs and support our transition to net zero.

I’m one of around 700,000 Londoners who can’t swim. So learning has become a personal mission.
Great to join @swimdemcrew to talk about opening up London’s blue spaces and share 5 essentials for new swimmers.
That’s what @SadiqKhan’s Clean Rivers & Waterways Plan is all about.

A great turnout in Southmead for my final town hall before the summer break.
We covered everything from local concerns to international affairs, with climate change emerging as the biggest topic of discussion.
See you at my next Q&A in September!

My parents came to London believing tomorrow could be better than yesterday.
The Downs Estate gave that hope a home.
The University of Greenwich gave it purpose.
London gave me the privilege to serve.

🚨 NEW: Andy Burnham has announced an £8.4bn investment in the UK’s nuclear submarine programme
£5.9bn will go to BAE Systems and the rest to the supply chain to prepare HMS Dreadnought for service in the 2030s
He says it will create 22,000 apprenticeships by 2035
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
This is not a new announcement. The £8.4 billion is “part of the already agreed Dreadnought programme”.
There is no new money here and no new jobs. This is a re-announcement.
“Already agreed”theguardian.com/politics/2026/…
Page 29 lists existing spending far higher than 8.4 billion for the programme.

I’ve always thought Wes Streeting was a good communicator, he still is but his reputation is severely diminished. There’s a lack of authenticity now as he walked out as Health Secretary & failed to challenge for the leadership.
