My second novel Yñiga, about a woman and her cat, political violence and CIA shenanigans in Cold War-era Philippines, is out today in North America from Coffee House Press! coffeehousepress.org/product…
Bestselling author Sally Rooney’s books will no longer be sold in the U.K. due to her support for Palestine Action, a protest organization labeled as a “terrorist group” under the U.K.’s Terrorism Act 2000:
Rooney said in a statement: “In July 2025, the direct-action protest group Palestine Action was proscribed as a terrorist organization in the U.K. The following month, I wrote an opinion piece expressing my intention to go on supporting Palestine Action, which is not a proscribed or otherwise prohibited group here in the Republic of Ireland."
“As a result, the fulfilment of contracts to publish my work in the U.K. could now constitute a serious criminal offence. After a process of consultation and deliberation, and with my full agreement, my publisher Faber has therefore determined that it can no longer supply my work within the U.K. I have made every effort to be honest with the public about my beliefs and intentions, and I am wholly prepared to accept the consequences.”

REST IN POWER, TATAY ELMER ✊

“One way to understand the class alliance that has coalesced around Bolsonarismo is to think of it as the meeting of those who have given up waiting for the promises of modernization to be realized, and those who have stopped pretending that the promises they made were real.”
What is happening in Brazil, and why do these elections matter so much? We asked a philosopher, a social scientist, a journalist and an organizer.

Bolsonaro did not win a landslide or even a majority. He's edged in front by about 2%, despite the full force of the US & Israeli govts throwing everything at this election, manipulating the process at every step.
Even under these conditions, Brazil's social movements fight on.

"there is an ontological difference even before an aesthetic one". This is key. It does not matter how good your machine is at regurgitating a simulacrum of human imagination, how skilled it is at fooling people, or how efficient it is at that subterfuge. It is a priori fucked up
In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

Does anyone remember that Reddit post where someone's aunt was in love with a kapre and the kapre kept saying no. The kapre felt so harassed that it left the tree 😭😭😭

Kicking out the free press is what fragile authoritarians do. Not American presidents. instagram.com/reels/DdovJZPT…
The historian Frances Stonor Saunders died recently at age 60.
Her book “Who Paid the Piper?” pulled back the curtain on postwar CIA funding of Western cultural institutions — despite repeated attempts to censor it, including by her American publisher. jacobin.com/2026/09/history-…

BREAKING: EVERY scheduled opening act on Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour has now withdrawn after Macklemore was dropped over his pro-Palestinian remarks.
Aaron Rowe, Lukas Graham and Finneas have all pulled out, while Sheeran’s touring band Beoga has also quit. Each cited solidarity with Macklemore, Palestinians, or opposition to artists being silenced.
