MADLANGA COMMISSION REJECTS ALLEGATIONS AS FALSE AND INCOHERENT
The Madlanga Commission, rejects outright the allegations purportedly made by Mr Serge Cabonge regarding ‘a man who sits in front of
the Madlanga Commission’.
On 13 October 2026, the Commission became aware of allegations contained in a voice recording atributed to Mr Cabonge, which was played earlier that day during the bail
proceedings of Mr Shadrack Sibiya in the Randburg Magistrates Court.
The Commission issued a brief statement on the same day indica9ng that Mr Cabonge had previously been mentioned at hearings before the Commission and that it would engage Mr Cabonge and obtain a statement from him, and that the matter would be investugated in accordance with the Commission’s terms of reference.
The Commission stated that it would
not comment further on the mater.
Ordinarily, the Commission would allow that process to take its course without further
public comment.
However, ongoing commentary in the public domain has necessitated a
further and clearer response. The nature of the allegatkons and commentary suggestkng that
senior representa9ves of a judicial commission sought to interfere with a criminal investigation cannot simply be allowed to circulate as though they have a factual foundation.
The Commission wants to state clearly and categorically that the allega9ons are false, incoherent and are not supported by any facts. None of the commissioners or evidence leaders have met, spoken to or know Mr Cabonge. Neither has anyone on behalf of the
Commission ever communicated with Mr Cabonge, whether directly or through an
intermediary, concerning Mr Cabonge’s appearance before the Commission.
The Commission urges South Africans to treat allegations of this nature with the necessary caution. As previously stated, the Commission is advancing its inquiry and will resume public hearings
on 9 November 2026.

"The Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Criminality, Political Interference and Corruption in the Criminal Justice System, commonly known as the Madlanga Commission, has noted
the voice recordings attributed to Mr Serge Cabonge in the bail hearing of Mr Shadrack Sibiya in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court today.
Mr Cabonge has previously been mentioned at hearings before the Commission. The Commission will engage with Mr Cabonge and obtain his statement as part of its broad
