Last year, @iamjohnoliver pulled back the curtain on the rail industry’s dark side under #PSR and deregulation, with a sharp nod to the grittier days of Thomas the Tank Engine. Watch him dismantle the industry's failings on @LastWeekTonight. 🚂

U.S. Rep. Dina Titus addressed delegates at the BLET National Convention, raising concerns about rail safety, worker protections, the increased use of artificial intelligence, and the proposed Union Pacific-Norfolk Southern merger. Read more: blet.link/4BhI3CX @repdinatitus

The Union Pacific/Norfolk Southern mega merger would make one company richer than most countries on Earth, while raising prices for Americans. The Teamsters Rail Conference, which is made up of BLET and BMWED, represents more than half of Union Pacific's and Norfolk Southern’s unionized workforce. We are leading a broad-based coalition to oppose the merger.

Railroads opposing heavier trucks because bigger equipment creates additional safety & infrastructure concerns is a perfectly reasonable argument.. It does, however, require everyone to temporarily forget what has happened to train length & tonnage over the last fifteen years.
Last week, GoRail and @leagueofcities brought together safety, public works, and Capitol Hill experts to dig into a proposal moving through Congress: a 10-year "pilot program" that would raise the federal truck weight limit from 80,000 to 91,000 pounds. Panelists included leaders from the @NoBiggerTrucks and @APWA_UST, along with law enforcement and House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee staff. Here's what they had to say about the proposal and the policy fight ahead: gorail.org/truck-size-and-we…

Thank you @repdinatitus, @RepHorsford and @RepSusieLee for joining more than 100 members of Congress in calling on the STB to fully examine the labor impacts of the proposed UP-NS merger. Railroad workers should not bear the cost of consolidation. hoyle.house.gov/imo/media/do…

Nearly 23,000 union jobs gone in ten years.. A combined workforce down 31%.. Now 1,200 promised jobs are supposed to reassure railroad workers about the largest rail merger in modern history. If those jobs are real, make them enforceable. Require vacancies to be filled as workers retire. Put the commitments in the STB order and attach consequences when they aren’t met. Rail labor has spent enough time negotiating over promises.. We should be negotiating over guarantees.

The Teamsters thank the Trump Administration for defending a federal rule that generally requires a minimum of two crewmembers aboard trains. This regulation keeps crews and communities safe by ensuring that covered trains — which can be over three miles long — have enough workers to identify and address problems, errors, and emergencies. President Trump’s Federal Railroad Administration and Department of Transportation successfully argued against the industry’s attempt to roll back this rule, leading to a favorable 2-1 decision at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. "This is an important victory for railroad safety. The Trump Administration deserves full credit for standing behind its commitment to two-person crews and vigorously defending the FRA rule in federal court," said Mark Wallace, President of the BLET and the Teamsters Rail Conference. "We thank President Trump, Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy, FRA Administrator David Fink, and the attorneys and professionals at the DOT and FRA who defended the rule and secured this result."

Earlier today, the Senate HELP Committee voted unanimously 22-0 to advance the bipartisan Railroad Retirement Board (RRB) Stability Act of 2026 (S. 4965). The bill is designed to provide RRB with the long-term funding it needs to better serve railroad workers. (1/3)

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters joins Teamsters Canada and the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) in calling on Canadian National Railway (CN) to immediately stop operating trains through active wildfire zones and put the safety of Teamsters Canada rail members first. A recent viral video on social media shows a CN freight train engulfed in flames while traveling through an active wildfire in Northern Ontario.  The train was operated by Teamsters Canada Rail Conference members, whose quick thinking and professionalism ensured that no one was injured. But those workers should never have been put in that position. CN should never be sending train crews into such dangerous conditions.

Frank Wilner’s latest in @RailwayAge is worth reading precisely because it engages a hard issue that people in this industry do not all see the same way.. To me, two-person freight crews are not a slogan or a legacy work rule. They are a layer of operational redundancy in an industry where rare failures can carry very real consequences for employees, first responders, and the public. PTC matters.. Technology matters.. Neither replaces the judgment, situational awareness, emergency response, and protection work that happens when things stop going according to plan. That is the part of this debate that deserves more attention and less theater. Full piece from Frank Wilner is linked below: railwayage.com/freight/class…

Passed 54-11! Thank you @realDonaldTrump and @RepTroyNehls for your leadership and for championing rail #safety. The lessons learned from our investigation and the residents of East Palestine will not be forgotten.
The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee is about to vote on my rail safety amendment to the Surface Transportation Reauthorization Bill. Congress must act today to improve the safety of our nation’s rail network and pass my amendment.

The most pro-worker thing any government can do under the Railway Labor Act is stay out of the way. The RLA’s machinery was designed to contain strikes before workers ever get to exercise one. The moment any president pulls that lever, every pro-union speech becomes decoration.
