New post: Warbled Sidekiq: Zero-install Executable for JVM Previously, I showed how to use Warbler to package a simple tool as an executable jar. This post will demonstrate how to “warble” a larger project: the Sidekiq background job server! buff.ly/ZEasNiu

At the end of my post on JRuby and JDK 25 startup time features, I teased a bit of the unreleased improvements from Project Leyden. It turns out the latest commits improve startup time even more, so it seems worth posting a quick follow-up! reddit.com/r/ruby/comments/1…

That's right... JRuby is the only Ruby with a fully-portable, all-in-one distribution that works with Bazel's secure, closed-world builds. You want secure, stable, scalable Ruby, you use JRuby! Thanks for the chat at @rubykaigi! – at Mendota, MN
Replying to @p0deje
This is required for proper remote builds with Bazel as it simply uploads the interpreter for the current platform to a remote machine and it won't compile it there. Due to this design, only JRuby can now be used with Bazel remote builds (hats off to @headius).

One of my benchmarks for learning German is being able to construct Alle Kinder jokes, about whatever topic I happen to be thinking about. Still usually uncertain if I have the exact right words. Alle Kinder verwenden @jruby, außer Bill, der keine Leistung will.

Seems like a few folks didn't think my 2D bar chart was "beautiful", so let's kick it up a notch with 3D, SVG, and PDF generation using the same JFreeChart family of libraries! blog.headius.com/2025/05/3d-…

It's almost time! I've just published my first post on JRuby 10, "Part 1: What's New". More posts will follow in the coming weeks, but JRuby 10 itself should be generally available before my RubyKaigi talk next week! buff.ly/IUQ1ixS

We have released jruby-launcher 2.0! This version eliminates the old C++ code in favor of two options: * On Unix systems, just exec the jruby.sh script. * On Windows, a new Rust-based exe is coming soon. Let us know if you have any issues: buff.ly/nLmlSh3

Help wanted! CRuby moved this Ruby stdlib function into a native core function, so it could be used without stdlib and perform better. JRuby needs to do the same! Great way to start contributing! Create native Time#iso8601 · Issue #8476 · jruby/jruby github.com/jruby/jruby/issue…

Exciting news! My “How We Built JRuby” talk at @rubyconf this year will be joined by @tom_enebo! We don’t often get to travel together these days, so this is a rare opportunity to attend RubyConf 2024 and meet up with both of us. See you there! ti.to/rubyconf/2024

Ok, this one is REALLY exciting. I’ve just pushed my first post on using JRuby with the OpenJDK CRaC project (Coordinated Restore at Checkpoint), based on Linux CRIU (Checkpoint and Restore In Userspace). How fast can JRuby startup get? Read on! blog.headius.com/2024/09/jru…

In a bit over an hour I’ll present my talk “20 Years of JRuby” at this year’s JVM Language Summit, and I think it’s almost done. 😀 It will be packed with content: 70 slides in 45 minutes, hopefully with time left for questions. The future of JRuby starts today! #jvmls
