In the name of fighting censorship, the Trump administration is shaping digital ecosystems to favor its preferred narratives while chilling dissent. It is a form of soft epistemic authoritarianismāand we all (I hope) know what comes next.

The Mediterranean is on fire.
A buoy off the coast of Majorca has measured a sea surface temperature of 31ĀŗC, the average AUGUST temperature is 26ĀŗC.
Temperatures range from 3-7ĀŗC above average across the basin. This marine heatwave is setting new records for what's possible.

Someone asked me last night why I always talk about the science of climate change, but not solutions. I think it's worth addressing this to be transparent about why I do what I do.
First, he's right. I do spend more time on the science/ data. That's mainly because it is where my interest and expertise align. The intersection of climate and weather is my primary expertise. And a warmer climate is impacting my community and others around the World right now.
Candidly, although I know a bunch about solutions, I wouldnāt say Iām an expert.
With that said, I have done my fair share of segments, stories, posts etc... on solutions in my past decade of relentless work on this subject. I still do.
But unfortunately Iāve found propsing solutions sometimes leads to backlash - made many people angry, dig in, and even double down.
People don't like being told what to do. Also I think it is unfair to put the weight of this issue on your shoulders. Personal changes are good - I do my best to walk the walk in my personal life - but only systemic change across societies and cooperation can really solve this. It's an immense undertaking - but it will pay dividends if we accept the challenge.
So why do I bother even doing this when I recieve so much push back for communicating the science?
It's simple: I view it as my responsibility. My obligation.
This is my expertise. I have degrees in both atmospheric sciences and climate. I study this stuff day in, day out. I work in media and have a platform.
So if this is not my responsibility then exactly who's responsibility is it?
If I don't do it, then who else will? Who is better equipped than me to do this?
As a scientist and journalist I view my job as simple: communicate the truth, no matter how inconvenient it may be.
Yes, it can feel thankless - but thats ok⦠I am not doing it for the applause.
I am doing it because its the right thing to do.
Bottom line: I am not posting climate stuff to antagonize anyone and I am not asking you to do anything about it.
I'm simply illustrating how us 8 billion Earthlings are changing the planet and the natural systems which support us. It's up to you to decide if you'd like to be a part of the solution. Itās a personal decision.

We knew it, but seeing the data laid out ā it's still shocking: higher taxes for most, deep cuts to Medicaid & SNAPāall to fund tax breaks for the top 1%.
It's difficult to fully grasp the scale of the con being perpetrated on Americans right now by the Trump administration.

We've reached 1.5°C global warming.
With current policies, we're heading for a catastrophic 2.7°C warming.
A new review paper in Science shows: this would change the Arctic 'beyond recognition', with knock-on effects (like rising seas) around the world.
