The woman killed by ICE today was a poet. She won the 2020 Academy of American Poets, University & College Poetry Prize at Old Dominion University. This was her bio: "Renée Macklin is from Colorado Springs, Colorado and is studying Creative Writing at ODU. Her poetry has been published in Metrosphere and Coronado Literary Review, and she currently co-hosts a podcast with her husband, comedian Tim Macklin. When she is not writing, reading, or talking about writing, she has movie marathons and makes messy art with her daughter and two sons." (People are posting the wrong woman's photo, the red lipstick photo is not her. This is Renee, from her social media accounts.)

We live in a "separate art from the creator" kinda world, and I get it up to a point, but I firmly believe a woman who uses her considerable fortune to fund her vendetta against trans people should not be someone I (or anyone, really!) supports in any way, shape, or form
Some queer friends visited New York recently and they went to the Harry Potter store. Another friend of mine recently commented that she wanted to see the cursed child. Really sucks to see how many people just simply don’t give a fuck about trans people when it comes down to it

(Very glad that when I am late to church—for the same reasons—I am not met this way! It’s a very difficult space to be in as a queer person so burnt by the religion, but being in an all-inclusive church has really helped x)
An alcoholic friend of Philip Yancey once said to him: “When I'm late to church, people turn around and stare at me with frowns of disapproval. I get the clear message that I'm not as responsible as they are. When I'm late to AA, the meeting comes to a halt and everyone jumps up to hug and welcome me. They realize that my lateness may be a sign that I almost didn't make it. When I show up, it proves that my desperate need for them won out over my desperate need for alcohol."

I know exactly where this free Roman temple is. I’ve been! Walked past it by chance and decided to follow my whimsy and go in. London isn’t so bad x
City of London keeps telling developers ‘yes you can build that skyscraper but you have to put a free Roman temple museum in the basement’, ‘yes build it but it needs a free viewing platform on the 58th floor’. And it’s gradually becoming quite a good day out

People always jump to “how can ice go after natives lol that doesn’t make any sense” and it’s like Yeah that’s right. Because this bigotry isn’t based on logic and can’t and won’t be argued away with obvious facts
Indigenous actress and ‘Northern Exposure’ star Elaine Miles was approached by ICE. After showing her tribal ID and attempting to call the number on the card, an agent called it “fake” and tried to take her phone before leaving her alone.

writing is a technology for thinking. put words on a page and you slow your mind; in that slowdown you expose the joints of your argument. speed hides cracks. slow reveals structure. read to gather material; write to test it. reading enlarges what you know; writing shows what...
what people don’t realize is that to write is to think. by outsourcing your writing you are outsourcing your thinking. you are paying for the degradation of your own mind. don’t use AI to “structure” your thoughts. structure them yourself. a shortcut to nowhere

This point would be sensible except for one small problem. Most rape doesn’t happen in a dark alley at 3am. It happens in people’s homes, in schools, work places, social gatherings etc. And the perpetrator is often not a stranger but someone known by the victim.
I don't get why 2 things can't be true at once for some of y'all 1. Rape is always 100% the rapist's fault 2. Walking through a dark alley at 3 AM is a stupid risk Denying #2 doesn't prevent rape, it just creates more vulnerable victims. Your take is negligent and dangerous
