Sharon Graham, Unite's general secretary: “Death by a thousand cuts has been going on under the nose of successive governments. Years of underinvestment, unsustainable zero-emission mandates and high industrial energy costs are crippling the industry. There must be further action.”
Well said @UniteSharon @unitetheunion . JLR doesn’t need a hand out, it needs the handcuffs of high energy costs and imposed EV targets removing

🛑NORTHUMBRIA UNIVERSITY CENSURED BY UCU🛑
On 28 May @UCU wrote to Northumbria management regarding the censure of Northumbria University.

ALT Northumbria University: On 28 May UCU wrote to Northumbria management regarding the censure of Northumbria University. There has been wide-ranging public comment and criticism directed at Northumbria University management since it announced its intention to introduce two separate salary scales for staff depending on which pension scheme they choose, with those staff who choose to remain in the Teachers' Pensions Scheme (TPS) being subject to a punitive pay freeze. Northumbria University UCU have resisted these unacceptable proposals at every turn, including through industrial action.

This report in Times Higher Education is about the likely decline in the employers’ contribution rate to the Teachers’ Pension Scheme, which could be less than one year away. If true, this would be welcome news. It would also lend weight to the stance taken by @UCUNUbranch

Universities have been told to expect employer contribution rates for the Teachers’ Pension Scheme to fall, but remain in the dark about how much by or when further information will be announced #TPS #pensions

Northumbria VC calls forcing staff to choose between their pension and their pay a "choice."
It isn't. It's coercion.
Even the financial advisers Northumbria is paying for are telling staff to stay in TPS.

It’s good that @jonbryan has spelt out the reality for @ucu members at @UCUNUbranch about the so-called pension choice being offered by Northumbria University Vice Chancellor Andy Long and his Executive team.
He’s right to give them ‘no credit whatsoever’

Northumbria management says it needs to cut £25m. But it spent £39.6m on capital projects last year an eightfold increase in four years.
Staff are being asked to pay for that gamble with their pensions.
