Universities are tearing apart the humanities, arts and social sciences. Courses are closing, jobs are disappearing, and students and staff are paying the price.
At Exeter, 85% of proposed job cuts targeted these disciplines.
These are choices, not inevitabilities. We need university leaders who will defend education, not dismantle it.
Defend our humanities. Defend our universities.

Many constituents have contacted me, devastated by the University of Nottingham’s decision to approve plans to close modern languages and music degrees, cut support services and end one-to-one personal tutoring.
Not only will this decision impact livelihoods and opportunities for students, but it will have wider cultural and economic implications for our city, region and international relations.
Throughout this period, I have stood in solidarity with striking staff and met with university leaders, urging them to protect jobs and courses. It is not too late for the leadership to engage with @UoNUCU and its detailed counter-proposals.
