The CEO of the National Trust was interviewed today on PM (BBC Radio 4) about their plans inc. how they intended to address Global Warming. The interviewer suggested doing so would be regarded as evidence that the NT was "woke". No, it's recognising the science! @TheDisproof

'How's that on a scale of medieval misogyny?'
Private Eye editor Ian Hislop tells @AndrewMarr9 that Elon Musk is 'riddled with contradictions'.
As so often @SteveAshton55 has taken one of the best photos out there of a Kent rarity. Well done, Steve.
I had a vivid dream last night that Liz and I were having a good chat, so much so, that as I was waking I turned to continue the conversation, forgetting in that moment that she's been gone for 6 years. How I wish I could have dreamt on a little longer! 😢

I never had the opportunity to meet this multi-talented young woman but my heart goes out to her father, a fellow birder & teacher. Please read her story & help raise £100000 for Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumour Research #donate on @justgiving and RT justgiving.com/crowdfunding/…
5 days after posting I was moving my bird/wildlife chat to "the other place" (johncantelo.bsky.social) c50% my birding friends have done so too. Please decamp there if you want to stay in touch. I'll respond to 'political' tweets here but will initiate few if any threads.
Like many others, I'm gradually migrating my birding/wildlife content over to BlueSky - see @johncantelo.bsky.social. For the time being, I'll keep my twitter account for my more political comments.

This doesn't look good! For once I'm pleased that I'm in a damp, dull & dreary UK rather than in Alcala de los Gazules theolivepress.es/spain-news/… – at Canterbury, England
Good to be reminded that some (albeit too few) birds have thrived over the last 50 years. – at Canterbury, England
This is intolerable and, despite previous complaints about similar behaviour, appears to be getting worse. Between irresponsible paraglider pilots & dog walkers, birds don't have a chance. @Alexander_Lees

Following the kind comments after I posted some drawings yesterday, here's a painting of my first Desert Wheater over 20 years ago at Reculver (note the famous twin towers in the background). Like much of my artwork, I've since given it away to a friend.
At one time I regularly drew or painted birds but it's been decades since I made a serious effort to do so. Stumbling across these pen-and-ink drawings I made decades ago made me regret that I got out of the habit
Watching @theAliceRoberts' Egypt by Train. Episode 1 features a mosaic in the 'House of Birds' but she's not a birder as she ID'd this Purple Swamphen as a "duck". I've also seen the species on a mosaic in Bulgaria. It seems an odd choice - did they have mythical significance?
