Donaldson's arrest, conviction and sentence for child rape is hugely significant for unionism.
In 1921, as Carson told us, the Liberal Unionist Party did a deal with the Tories. It could run NI how it wished so long as it supported the Tories at Westminster. In fairness to them the North's successive liberal unionist parties stayed bought for a century. But then came Brexit and the demolition of Tory power without which they cannot run NI.
There is no way Donaldson would ever have even been arrested if the Tories could still deliver.

Can anyone point me to the "outrage" from ANY of the main Unionist Political Parties, when over 1,000 (current) members of the UVF lined the streets of the Newtownards Road in East Belfast in June 2024 in a "show of strength" ?
The hypocrisy from the DUP, the TUV and the UUP is breathtaking. All of these Parties who preach from their political pulpits about "law breaking" have indulged the continued existence of Loyalist Terrorist organisations.

The Brexit vote was largely delivered by legions of 'Little Englanders,' many of them elderly. Remain was popular with most Scots, with those in Northern Ireland, most people in our major cities, & most of the young. Even if we eventually rejoin we will never get a deal as good as we once had. Their insularity, xenophobia & ignorance have impoverished this country & robbed us of our EU-wide rights. They should feel deeply ashamed for saddling us all with a chocolate tea set, of course many will not & still cling to the old nonsense.
