Thanks @bkclifford 🙌 When we say that investments into affordable housing since 2018 are historic, this is what we’re talking about. 👇

Thanks to everyone who has made a donation, and to everyone who helped to promote. We've reached the $1275 mark and we'd love to add to that total to provide just a bit more support to the 12 residents who have been impacted by fire. E-transfers to [email protected]
With @mssinenomine leading the way, I’ve set up an account to gather contributions for residents affected by a recent fire in this building. If you can spare a little or a lot, details are 👇🏻

Working together with @jfatkey a fund is being set up to provide care parcels to those who have been temporarily displaced and one who remains in ICU. If you would like to donate you can email funds to [email protected] All help is immensely appreciated.

The next time someone asks why we can’t have more detox beds and housing, we can just tell them: The original application submitted under the outdated 2014 Vancouver Building Bylaw (VBBL), which was updated in 2019. Application must be updated to meet the 2019 VBBL. Obvi.

The good/bad neighbour narrative reveals a lot about a town’s values. In this episode, the golf club doesn’t pay taxes because they’re good. Non-profits saving lives and running art programs do pay taxes because they’re bad. cbc.ca/news/canada/british-c…

Oops! Sorry everyone, a major data error in that table. Here is the correct one. Thanks to @ty_olsen and @vb_jens for pointing out the mismatch.
The @bcnpha policy team looked at rental completions data over the last five years in BC's ten target municipalities. The new market rental targets won't be a stretch for most, BUT 👇

And the updated below-market targets vs. completions indicated an even bigger stretch is required.

The below-market rental targets will require a dramatic shift for every one of them. The big question now becomes, how? And there isn't a lot of time to figure that out.

This is a great move, and well timed to align with the new BC Builds initiative. The motion could be strengthened by prioritizing non-profit housing partnerships. The market can’t build workforce housing affordable to ECEs. 👇🏻 vancouversun.com/opinion/col…

I have so many thoughts. And together, they will make me unpopular with everyone. First, new homes cost what the market will bear, and without significant tax reforms and supply outpacing population growth, they will remain high regardless of their inputs. BUT 👇
Here's my story on the potential feud between Metro Vancouver and the federal government over the regional government's proposal to massively raise DCC fees on new developments in order to pay for billions in infrastructure upgrades. Contains charts! cbc.ca/news/canada/british-c…

And here’s the bigger problem: if growth decides it can’t pay for growth, existing residents will pay in other ways: no teachers, no nurses, no firefighters, no one to stock grocery shelves. We’ll all be poorer for it.

There’s no doubt that we have an infrastructure deficit that needs to be addressed. Do you know what we do in a society? We pay for it together.
