Ok so incumbents re-elected in some of the major cities:
- Linda Buchanan in CNV
- Mike Little in DNV
- Mike Hurley in Burnaby
- Marianne Alto in Victoria
- Tom Dyas in Kelowna (a very tight race)
Outside of that it looks like a bit of a bloodbath for incumbents all over the province. Some notables: Garth Frizzell is the new mayor in PG and in Kamloops Reid Hamer-Jackson was trounced by Mike O’Reilly
McCallum now well ahead in Surrey. Votes evenly split between non-McCallum/non-Locke mayoral candidates.
Big figures in Metro/TransLink all well ahead of declared elected (Hurley in Burnaby, West in Port Coquitlam, Little in District of North Vancouver).
Some interesting prelim results rolling in from around Metro and it’s not favouring incumbents. Kirk Lapointe appears to have defeated incumbent Mark Sager in west van, Woodward and Johnson behind in township of Langley and New West respectively.

For those voting in Vancouver municipal election, advance polls open tomorrow (Sat, Oct 3). To help you out, @jodyvance and I, through the deft hosting of @segalrs break down the 5 major candidates* for you, with what may be a surprising conclusion. podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcas…
For everyone voting in local government elections this month, a companion podcast we did earlier is on what a mayor actually does. Its easy to think of elections as popularity contests where vibes matter most. While that can be fun right up until election day….
it makes for a better four years between elections to think of it as a job interview where you're hiring the candidate with the best suited skills for the job you want them to do. You can find that episode here: podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcas…
Not a ton of info at this point. Horrific news to get and on today of all days. Thinking about everyone at the TFN right now, and all the survivors who should be able to heal but instead are getting this news through their networks. 🧡🪶💔

From election watch to let’s goooooo! I don’t think I have ever heard a sitting premier use the word “fire” this many times in an election, let alone in the framing of the case for an election.
Andrea Reimer (she/her) retweeted
why there is so much speculation about an election call early next week - if Eby goes by Tuesday, election is Sat, Oct 24th, any later and it’s goes to Oct 31st (not ideal), then it’s Nov 7th, etc. If he waited until after the municipal elections Oct 17th, it’s Nov 21st.
Exactly 4 weeks to go until BC municipal elections and what are we talking about on the @beyondaballot Vancouver Votes podcast? The same thing everyone else is: a potential provincial election. Join @segalrs @jodyvance and me on “Election Watch 2026” lolz podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcas…
