Abdul El-Sayed needs to work through what a Jewish state means before he can affirm it. He told a room of Jewish supporters in Michigan last week that he could not answer the question without first unpacking whether Israel is Jewish by faith, by power, or by majority.
My grandmother Hela did not need to work through it. She was put on a plane out of Baghdad because in June 1941 a mob killed 180 Jews in two days, and the message to a community that had lived there for 2,600 years was clear. Over the following decade, 850,000 Jews were forced out of Arab and Muslim-majority countries. She did not need a definition of a Jewish state. She needed a door. Israel was the only one that opened.
That is what a Jewish state means. You can struggle with the question for as long as you like. My grandmother did not have the time.

“I wanna — your viewers to really understand that when we talk about anti-Semitism, it's — it's live. It's real. It's not something that's from the 1930s. It is a real, deadly threat against your Jewish neighbors all across the United States and in the country...I think it's really important to understand that the relationship between hate speech and hate violence is cause and effect. And so, when people don't stand up and speak out or — or even worse, justify anti-Jewish rhetoric or discourse, it becomes a permission structure for people to view all Jews and Jewish institutions as legitimate targets of violence.”
“It's part of our value system that we want to build bridges with other communities and with other types of people. And the idea that the Jewish community would come for such vitriol and such targeted attack, both rhetorical and in terms of physical violence, is — it’s shocking, it's sad, and it must end.”

Some beautiful words of reflection on the eve of Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Hebrew year.
May we be sealed in the Book of Life, with hope and strength to carry us forward.
Challenge is Not the Opposite of Blessing, It's Often the Beginning of It
by Rabbi Mendel Mintz
There’s a pattern in Judaism/Torah.
A pattern we don’t always want but we always need.
When G-d wanted to make David a king… He didn’t give him a crown. He gave him Goliath.
When He wanted to make Joseph a leader… He didn’t give him a palace. He sent him to prison.
When G-d wanted to elevate Moses - he didn’t give him a stage, he gave him decades in the wilderness.
When G-d wanted to make Esther a queen, (in the Purim story), he gave her a crisis and Haman.
Time and again, we see:
G-d doesn’t elevate people through ease, rather through struggle.
Because it’s not despite the challenge that we rise.
It’s through it.
That’s how the human spirit is made and rises higher.
We don’t know what the new year will bring. But we do know this:
We were not born for comfort.
We were born for meaning.
We weren’t placed in this world to hide from its problems — we were created to illuminate and solve them.
And if, this year, you find yourself walking through a wilderness… or standing before your own personal or professional Goliath… Remember: that’s not a detour from your destiny. That is your calling.
May this be the year G-d transforms our struggles into strength…
May this year bring peace and healing to all.
L’shana Tova — may it be a good and sweet new year.

Dear @EmmanuelMacron
You stated that “recognizing a Palestinian State is the best way to isolate Hamas”.
So in response, I’d like to tell you a story. I have a feeling you’ve never heard this one:
Once upon a time, in the year 2005, an Israeli Prime Minister and his government made a silly decision to do exactly what you suggested. So they sent a large number of Israeli soldiers into Gaza, and then forcibly removed entire communities and families of Israelis off their land and out if their homes and brought them into main Israel by the bus load.
But the story doesn’t end there.
Once done, they then went back to the now empty villages and town, and they dug up every last Israeli grave and removed the bodies to bring back to Israel.
And you know why, @EmmanuelMacron? Because they believed it would bring peace. And they did this after 5 long years of Hamas and your buddies in the PA sending suicide bombed after suicide bomber murdering thousands of Israelis including buses filled with kids.
So now, picture this… Gaza is completely free of even a single Jew. No soldiers. No anybody. Just Arabs. We left them schools and homes a s businesses and hundreds of greenhouses intact with thriving businesses worth hundreds of millions of dollars, all so that they could build a better life for themselves and have self determination.
And guess what happened next @EmmanuelMacron? Those Arabs you love so much took less than a few hours to burn down almost everything, ripped the greenhouses apart, stole hundreds of pipes, and made rockets. But not rockets to make fireworks to celebrate their new found state. Nope. They made actual freaking rockets. The kind that you fire at people to kill them. In fact they made hundreds and hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of rockets, and then fired them. But not done with just firing the rockets at Israel, they then voted for???
That’s right @EmmanuelMacron. They voted for Hamas. And they voted for them for only one reason. Because Hamas promised to exterminate every Jew and burn Israel to the ground. Yup. Every Israeli man, woman, child and baby would be wiped out, BECAUSE we gave them a state.
And for the past 20 years, the Gazans have done NOTHING but attack us again and again and again. But they didn’t do it alone. Nope. They had help.
You know who helped them @EmmanuelMacron? I’ll tell you.
It was Iran, and Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, and Egypt and Jordan, and Syria, and Lebanon, and the UAE, and… the United Nations, and Russia and China, and Britain, and Spain, and Ireland, and the EU, and… France. That’s right @EmmanuelMacron… YOU helped them building everything imaginable so that they could attack us, then you gave them political cover to get away with it. That’s what YOU did.
And then came October 7, and they tried it again and slaughtered many of us and kidnapped many too. But we defended ourselves and turned Gaza into rubble. It’s just a pity it took us two years but we would have done it sooner had you and your European friends not done everything in your power to stop us.
And now, here we are in 2025 @EmmanuelMacron. And what do you do? Well, you think that starting this story again in exactly the same way will somehow isolate the very people who got full power and control the last time.
Now I have to be honest with you @EmmanuelMacron. It’s difficult to describe just what kind of idiot you really are, because no language has yet the words to fully express it. But I can assure you that every word in every language that means retarded idiot exists solely to describe you.
So tell us again, @EmmanuelMacron, how giving bloodthirsty psychopaths a state is a good thing? Because the last time didn’t quite work out too well.

For at least the second time since the Oct. 7 massacre, I faced a pro-Hamas mob on campus this week. But this time, the putatively right-of-center org hosting the event turned the tables and engaged in cancel culture against its own speaker: me.
Here is the full story.
I have been involved with @FedSoc since my first year at @UChicagoLaw. I have been doing speaking events with FedSoc since 2019, and—without having access to the data—would conservatively estimate that, during that time, I have been one of the organization's 10-15 most popular campus speakers.
This week, I was in Illinois for five campus events—four with FedSoc and one with an unrelated org. The week started out well, with smooth FedSoc events at the University of Illinois and UChicago. But things went off the rails Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 30) at Loyola Chicago.
In short, 30 keffiyeh-clad "Students for Justice in Palestine" protesters showed up holding all sorts of signs about how I am a fascist/supporter of "genocide"/etc. at the event—which was an entirely unrelated debate with a left-leaning professor about Trump v. U.S., presidential immunity, lawfare, and the election. This is a key point: The event had nothing to do with Israel, the Middle East, foreign policy, etc. The SJP Hamasniks instead showed up to protest simply because I am Jewish and a supporter of Israel. That is it.
After I started, the protesters immediately stood up and turned their backs to me. All of this, in my experience, is roughly par for the course—similar to what has happened to me in the past. But after five minutes or so, the students started to slowly file out of the room to interrupt my comments. It was deliberately lethargic, and it felt in the moment like a de facto heckler’s veto. This was a tightly timed event, after all, and I only had 15 minutes of allotted time to offer remarks before the professor's rebuttal. In the heat of the moment, after initially trying and failing to talk over this heckler's veto, I made a snide comment about the need to wait for the "trash" to be taken out and, taking a page from @RyanGirdusky on CNN earlier this week, told the protesters that I "hope their beepers don’t go off."
Perhaps that was uncalled for. It was a very tense situation. In any event, the faculty member who was supposed to debate me then took to the lectern and used that as an excuse to promptly end the event. I hung around to the side of the room to answer questions from students for the remaining 20-30 minutes. After the event, two plainclothes campus police officers then evacuated me out of the classroom past the dozens of shouting Hamasniks lined up outside the door. One of them physically struck me while I was being whisked away. The police officers and I briskly walked down two flights of stairs to an elevator that was waiting for us. Then a campus police squad car dropped me off a few blocks away, away from the madness.
That was awful. But here is where the story gets considerably worse.
A few hours later, I got a phone call from someone at FedSoc's national office, informing me that my FedSoc event that was supposed to be yesterday (Oct. 31) at Chicago-Kent College of Law was immediately canceled. No specific reason was given and no reason has yet been provided, but the clear implication is that FedSoc was scared of another SJP-orchestrated "protest" of a Jewish/Zionist speaker—even though, once again, this additional planned event was on the same topic of Trump v. U.S., presidential immunity, and lawfare.
The reality is this: FedSoc caved to an anti-Semitic heckler's veto against one of its own speakers who wished to defend President Trump and others from the unprecedented lawfare now destabilizing our republic. Instead of checking in on the livelihood and welfare of the organization's own popular speaker, who had just faced a hostile mob, was physically struck, and needed a police escort to be safely evacuated, FedSoc turned the tables and engaged in cannibalistic cancel culture against one of its own speakers.
This is pure moral and intellectual cowardice—there is simply no other way to view it. I await patiently for an apology.

Out of sheer curiosity, I have a question for @POTUS and @KamalaHarris:
You’ve both publicly stated that you signed off on millions of dollars worth of aid for the Gazans. Probably tens of millions of dollars. But as you’re happy to make that so public, could you also make public for full transparency that you have attained full written guarantees that the hostages, of which 7 are American citizens, are being taken care of and fed with this very aid?
Can you please provide evidence you’ve received that the hostages, of which 7 are Americans, are being treated for any medical needs and are being treated with the same level of humanitarian relief as you are willingly sending to the Gazans who just happen to be holding them captive?
Can you please provide evidence of proof of life you’ve attained of the hostages, of which 7 are American nationals?
Otherwise, what are you getting in return for sending aid to the very people holding the hostages, of which 7 are American citizens?
Thanks
An American Israeli that’s wondering what the f*** you’re doing?

The Biden Administration’s warning to suspend arms to Israel unless the “humanitarian situation” in Gaza improves is deeply disturbing. Israel strongly denies that any crisis exists and works daily to ensure a fully adequate food supply to Gaza. Though I’ve spent my career striving for bipartisanship, at this fateful time, I cannot keep silent. The administration’s willingness to abandon Israel in the middle of a war for our nation’s survival casts doubts on America’s dependability as an ally and its commitment to defend the Free World.
