First power at Cape Station. - 33 MW today - 66 MW due by Jan 1 - 400 MW Phase 2 by 2028. At an 85% capacity factor, Phase 1 + Phase 2 (~500 MW) is ~3.7 TWh a year, close to a quarter of all US geothermal generation in 2025 (16 TWh). EGS Liftoff ! @fervoenergy #WesternGrid

Gonna put some #WesternGrid news out here this week. First up an update on Xcel in Colorado. 10 projects, ~2.9GW of wind/solar/storage/gas. All going live before EOY 2030.

This is a really big deal! Fervo now has 1,064 MW under contract - most of which comes online by 2028. Google has an option for another 600 MW by 2030. If the 1.1GW operates at a 85% CF this = 8TWh of annual generation. Total US geothermal generation was 16TWh in 2025.
Excited to share the news of this groundbreaking PPA today. Our multi-year partnership with Google has been important for Fervo’s growth, and we are excited to take the next step with them with this new 400 MW deal for enhanced geothermal power. wsj.com/business/energy-oil/…

Tesla is set to inaugurate its Semi factory in Nevada next month. Potential Capacity: 50,000 electric trucks per year. The Semi has been “coming soon” for years. Anywhere near this scale would be a huge win for EVs. electrek.co/2026/08/24/tesla…

Time for another prediction on the solar generation record for @MISO_energy . I was way too conservative last time. This time I'll be a bit more aggressive. The peak solar generation on MISO will pass 40 GW by EOY 2030. Would you go over/under on this?
Less than two years ago, peak solar output had just passed 8GW on @MISO_energy. I took a guess on when it might pass 20 GW - and came up with 2030. Wow, was I wrong! Solar passed 20GW on @MISO_energy two weeks ago. It's tough to predict such a fast growing tech. @ramez

After an extraordinary five-year buildout, solar capacity has now edged past wind capacity on the @ERCOT_ISO grid: 41,035 MW solar vs. 41,034 MW wind as of August 2026. Texas isn’t just America’s wind giant anymore. It’s now a solar giant too. @douglewinenergy

And I'd bet that battery storage is working hard to make it a race and to catch up in the Texas ERCOT grid @jdeely

Solar passes 8GW for the first time on @MISO_energy this past Wednesday. - 7GW in Sept - 6GW in May - 5GW in March Should pass 10 GW easily next year. 20GW by 2030? Thanks to @grid_status gridstatus.io/records/miso?r…

LOL - bullish solar analyst asks when an already large market will 2.5X capacity. Takes a swag and says 6 years from now. Turns out it was TWO YEARS! YOU’RE NOT BEING BULLISH ENOUGH ON SOLAR POWER! #SolarIsEatingTheWorld

California passes 21GW of total #battery storage. Note: See the subtext mentioning out-of-state BESS serving CA customers. Unclear how big this is - I would estimate 1-2GW. @CalEnergy energy.ca.gov/news/2026-08/c…

Replying to @jdeely
There isn't enough for NYISO to report with a band.

The 80GW currently rolling around on the streets of CA will be 200GW in 5 years and will be unlocked for V2G. The times they are a changing. V2G VPPs will be the lowest cost energy storage because the asset is free.

Saudi Arabia had zero grid-scale batteries at the end of 2024. Today: ~18 GWh operational, another 4 GWh in construction, and 20 GWh in tender from a standing start, in under two years. For context, that installed figure alone is already ahead of Great Britain's entire battery fleet, built in roughly the same window. Mark Kubik, breaks down why the Middle East is a good example of how quickly this industry as a whole is moving. That same pace of change is what's letting sodium-ion challenge lithium-ion's dominance elsewhere in the market and why the top companies in the sector are not guaranteed to stay there for long.
