Pastor: don’t feel the need to weigh in to every breaking Twitter conversation. Quietly, Pastor the flock of God among you well. We need that, not more hot takes on Twitter. – at Stephenville, TX
Breaking News: Walmart now takes Apple Pay. This means I can still forget my wallet and get what I need. 😂
The fix for our sin is never just trying harder. It is walking closer.
You are free in Christ. Not to walk in your sin, but to walk in the Spirit.

This summer I've been blessed with the opportunity to slow down, reflect, and thank God for His faithfulness over the past 30 years of pastoral ministry.
Looking back, here are 30 lessons I've learned. Some came through victories. Others came through disappointments. Most were learned the hard way. Yet God has used every one of them to shape me as a pastor, leader, husband, father, and follower of Christ.
I hope they'll encourage those who love Christ, serve His church, and desire to finish well.
30 Things I've Learned in 30 Years of Pastoral Ministry
1. Ministry is work. Hard work.
2. Faithfulness is the root; fruitfulness is the result, never the other way around.
3. Your public ministry will never rise above your private walk with God.
4. Momentum never happens by accident. It requires energy, direction, and relentless focus.
5. Clarity beats cleverness every time—in preaching, leadership, and communication.
6. The goal of preaching is not information, but transformation.
7. Consistency, not intensity, is what shapes people over time.
8. Forward progress matters, even when progress feels slow.
9. Big wins stretch the rubber band of the organization and its expectations.
10. Unless an issue is immoral or illegal, give it thirty days before reacting.
11. Rest is not laziness; it is stewardship.
12. You never want to lead without a little leadership change left in your pocket.
13. Discipleship requires intentional time, not accidental contact.
14. Sunday School/small groups matter because spiritual formation happens in relationships.
15. Most ministry conflict is rooted in unmet expectations, not malice.
16. A pastor must learn which battles matter and which ones do not.
17. Integrity is maintained by decisions no one ever applauds.
18. A growing ministry will always expose personal weaknesses first.
19. The church does not need innovation nearly as much as it needs obedience.
20. You cannot build a healthy church while neglecting a healthy home.
21. Family relationships outlast ministry accomplishments.
22. Developing leaders matters more than retaining control.
23. God often does His deepest work in seasons that feel unproductive.
24. Vision drifts when leaders stop repeating it.
25. Those who "eat you up" when you first come to a church eventually will.
26. Over time, patience becomes one of a pastor's most important leadership virtues.
27. You have to focus almost exclusively on evangelism to stay balanced in discipleship.
28. You rarely see God do suddenly what He hasn't been doing slowly for years.
29. The health and ministry of the church must always come before a pastor's wants and wishes.
30. Every pastor is an interim pastor.
Well after a day at Disney our families 9:30pm flight had turned into a 12:30am flight with a 2:30am arrival in Dallas…and the coffee shops are closed… @bartbarber I don’t know how you do it. #sbc26 ☕️☕️☕️

I’m thankful for the overwhelming support to move ahead so that we can vote on the Truth and Unity Amendment tomorrow morning. Plan to be there by 8am to vote for the amendment. Let’s get this thing done. Please be in the room early—ready to vote—so we can get this done.
At SBC? Be in the room no later than 8:15am tomorrow. It’s gonna be a big day! #sbc26
