Has the release of ChatGPT increased (decreased) the demand for more experienced (entry-level) workers?
In our new working paper (with @sunham_kim and @minvv23), we find that it did! We use 10.4 million Korean job postings and difference-in-differences to answer this.
5/ Next, we look at how the effects vary by occupation. Relative to blue-collar jobs, required experience for software developers rose by 0.62 years (~7 months, +19%), and the share of their postings open to entry-level applicants fell 7.2pp. Effects grow with AI exposure.

4/ Using the job posting data, we find that after ChatGPT's release, 1 SD higher AI exposure raised required experience by 0.073 years and cut the share of postings open to entry-level applicants by 0.8pp. The gap grew from fall 2023.
