Boomers don't get this, and then are bewildered why they are resented.

Way too many people I know saw their dads go bankrupt and it disrupted their lives. Avoid this. Set the wife and kids up SEPARATE. If you can’t trust them, that’s a bigger issue re: spiritual leadership of the family.
But what if Satoshi deletes all the bitcoins?
Leaving finance in 2015 was the right choice. Nice working with smart people but eventually they have nothing more to teach you and are wrong about important things, like bitcoin.

My kids telling me I smell like an old person low-key freaks me out
The only realistic way to remove the source of "old-people smell" is to wash yourself with persimmon soap. Ordinary soap won't touch the source of the smell, 2-nonenal, a kind of aldehyde that is highly hydrophobic.
Persimmon soap contains tannins which bind with the 2-nonenals and neutralizes it. The soap part washes it all away.
Lather up where the smell tends to concentrate: behind the ears, the neck, the upper back, let it sit for half a minute to allow the tannins to work, then rinse as usual. The acids will of course start building up again but unlike just relying on ordinary soaps, you will stay odorless far far longer.
You can buy really expensive and efficient medicated persimmon soaps for up to $20 a bar, but even the cheap supermarket soaps work really well. The brand I use is called 薬用柿渋石鹸 and widely available. 418 yen for a packet of three bars ($2.64).
Kakishibu is tannin rich astringent persimmon (not the sweet one you eat) and grows almost anywhere in Japan, and has been used as a dye or preservative for centuries, it wasn't until
2001 that Shiseido (a cosmetics company) researchers found the link between "old people smell" and the 2-nonenal and how to eliminate it.
Everyone starts getting it from the age of 40, it just happens as we age, but some people smell more, some less. Women also tend to smell less than men until around 75 when they too catch up.
For about seven years now I've liked the idea of limiting cars in Wingham main streets. Lots can be done in this regard - lowering the speed limit to 20km/h, blocking off the roads near schools, one way streets, limiting parking etc.
But this last four months of roundabout construction has shown me people are addicted to their cars. It has been an eye opening natural experiment. Despite high petrol costs, much less parking and major inconvenience, people just put up with it. The result is more frustrated drivers, more air pollution, and a big impact on local economies.
I think Wingham can still be much less reliant on cars. But not every story plays out as nicely as Leuven.
In 2016, Leuven made a bold decision: instead of trying to accommodate ever-increasing car traffic, it would change the rules of the road entirely. A decade later, the Dutch-style circulation plan has drastically improved the city’s accessibility, liveability, and public space.🧵
It was all only ever a social contagion. A fashion, like bell bottoms.

No contact is a necessary last resort for people whose parents are, say, addicts, or extremely abusive.
It has been deployed as a trendy thing because we have a surplus of therapists who aren't equipped to handle people's real issues: loneliness, lack of purpose. Most therapists are trained to advise people through, e.g., abuse - I would guess a nontrivial number of people seek therapy for more existential problems - "Why am I here?".
Insofar as we're talking about completely ordinary people and situations, Anna's right. It doesn't matter if your parents are boring, annoying, or even unpleasant. Social cohesion means keeping them around. It is the role of your friends to help snap you out of annoying behaviors, family should love eachother unconditionally, and unconditional love means putting up quite a bit, short of, again, abuse
Not to mention what people really don’t seem to get is that your duty to your parents and siblings and so on is also in part your duty to yourself. The duty is to develop resilience and discipline in managing your emotions and dealing with others.
This is the same principle as not being mean to the opposite sex. It’s the same principle as not being rude to service people. It’s the same principle as not lashing out at or spreading rumors about random strangers on the internet you’ve decided you don’t like. It’s not about them, it’s about you.

Tourism isn't an industry it is a trap.

You see this often at weddings and funerals. People who don't wear formal shoes often, so they buy the cheapest option, foam and glue, wear it once then put them in the closet for 6-7 years before taking them out again. They look fine for an hour or so until they self-destruct.

They're coming after open source AI, just like I predicted. The psyop being run by now us run by British intelligence operatives just like during COVID where they pushed mass censorship and deplatforming of truth-tellers. Now they're targeting open source AI so that government can centralize control over what AI models you're "allowed" to use. I predicted all of this in my podcasts, of course. It's obvious that decentralized cognition is a threat to centralized power and control that depends on censorship, surveillance and forced ignorance.
Join me in taking a stand for open source AI and opposing any legislation that seeks to outlaw it or regulate it.

Human happiness is basically measurable as a bell curve showing how far from/close you are, from having a five year old in your life.
A large part of Scott's "shtick" was deep pattern recognition, something in which you'd expect modern AI to excel. Yet try as I may, I can't get anywhere near the brilliance of one of his shows.
And believe me, I have tried. Not just for me but there is a vacuum and I know Scott tried to arm us with the tools but people aren't stepping up like they should. Maybe they are, but I'm just not seeing it. There should be hundreds of thousands of people Scott-posting right now.

“Results in reading, mathematics and science were above the national average and comparable to the average results in Germany and Sweden.”
These are the results of our pilot program, which includes AI tutors and has been running in 171 public schools for just over a year.
It was evaluated by PISA for Schools in June of this year. Since then, it has already expanded to more than 1,000 schools, and within 18 months, it will be in every public school in our country.

Security was just the beginning 🇸🇻
The highly promising results from El Salvador’s first PISA for Schools assessment show what education reform can achieve when student learning is placed at the center—and change reaches the classroom.
What is at stake is more than a score. It is a generation’s future and its prospects in the labor market.
These preliminary findings, drawn from a group of schools, point to a path worth pursuing. The World Bank Group is proud to support El Salvador’s efforts to strengthen education and expand opportunities for generations to come.
