idk who this loser is but I made so many friends because of ao3. friends that I've traveled with and for across multiple countries, friends at home that I see regularly, celebrate milestones with, who have met my family and vice versa. my life wouldn't be as vibrant without ao3.

and it is that nobody is making friends on ao3, no community is created on ao3, because that isn't what ao3 is *for*. ao3 is a place to upload fic. until tumblr nuked nsfw content, there were *always* spaces that existed to build community. discord kinda is that now but also not.

obviously I dont gain the same experience with everyone who reads my fics, but it's because my writing remains published as mine that the few gems are able to find me, and I am able to share special sparks of friendships with others. also writing kept me sane during pandemic.

at that time, it was a needed form of socialization. we were writing because we were collectively feeling for the media we consume, the circumstances, characters we love, all of that was community. but anyway, not here to fight with OP, I have my forever people because of ao3✨️

based on the kanji used, these are the universities i think furudate sensei used as a reference ushijima → meiji univ (明大) bokuto → NSSU (日体大) goshiki → juntendo univ (堂大) hyakuzawa → chuo univ (中大) sakusa → waseda university (早大) cannot figured suna one out tho
