Even the partisan ICBA doesnāt explicitly endorse the conservative revenue projections here
A statement by ICBA Chief Economist Jock Finlayson on the 2026 Conservative Party of B.C. platform and costing:
"The costed Conservative platform looks reasonable. It is a balanced plan, recognizing that there is much that affects the B.C. economy which is beyond the governmentās control.Ā Ā
Ā
"The Conservatives intend to take a gradualist approach to deficit reduction, which makes sense given the depth of the fiscal hole Premier Eby has dug and the fragile state of the economy.Ā An important element of fiscal strategy under a new government will be kick-starting the private sector, which has been languishing over the past several years while the broad public sector has continued to expand.Ā The private sector accounts for at least three quarters of all economic activity ā including employment ā in British Columbia; it also provides the exports and drives the innovation on which living standards partly depend. Under the NDP, the priority has been increasing the size and reach of the public sector, even as large parts of the business community have been struggling or in outright decline. Ā Ā
"A healthier business climate and a stronger private sector economy will help to address B.C.ās difficult fiscal situation by bolstering economic growth and expanding the tax base."

It doesn't matter what he *tried* to say, it matters what he *actually* said and the way it impacts people.
"The First Nations have to be conquered" is an incredibly offensive thing to say - a representative should represent ALL people. This is unacceptable.

Statement from Mike Hicks, Conservative candidate for Juan de FucaāMalahat
In the short, out of context clip circulating, I was inartfully explaining how British Columbia got into its current situation of not having settled treaties, in a historical context. I was not defending how things were handled back then ā quite the opposite.
It was clearly a mistake for British Columbia not to negotiate treaties with First Nations well over a century ago, as happened elsewhere in Canada.
I was specifically making the case for developing modern treaties with First Nations. That is clearly what I said in the debate: āAnd thatās why we have to have these treaties.ā
As Juan de Fuca Electoral Area Director, I have a clear track record of working constructively with local First Nations. They know that I am committed to working towards true reconciliation.
If elected, I am committed to working with all British Columbians, for the betterment of our province.
I asked the Conservative leader simple question: how much will your car insurance cost under his plan? He couldnāt answer.
Under his plan, your rates could double.
Basic car insurance rates in B.C. have been frozen for seven straight years, and our plan will keep them frozen for three more.
This sums it up
This debate has gone on for 96 minutes and it is still totally unclear what the BC Conservative is. Four leaders in 10 months. Zero plans in 96 minutes. #bcpoli

Is that all Doerkson has to offer on housing? Stunning to be so unprepared on such a big issue.
Under the last Conservative government, back when they called themselves BC Liberals, 9 out of 10 long-term care homes couldnāt meet the standard of one bath a week for seniors.
Seniors deserve better. More cuts would take us right back there.

Once again Lorne promises to āfully fund healthcare."
Meanwhile, his Health Critic Anna Kindy supports a parallel private-pay system, and his Nanaimo candidate Mark MacDonald has called it the āonly solution.ā
So what exactly does āfully fundedā mean? And by whom?

Eby strong here - housing & rental costs are dropping, 300k more homes built when we removed local zoning barriers, speculators were driven out of the market & that opened up 10k homes, & 7800 affordable housing units are being built right now. #BCstrong #BCpoli
āOur plan is making a difference: housing prices are falling faster here than anywhere else in the country, and we need to keep going. Conservatives would rip up our plan and send rents skyrocketing. We canāt afford that, especially right now.ā - @Dave_Eby

This constant reduction in asking rents over the last 24 months is huge

I am hearing it every day at the doors, people in Saanich South want to see our health care system support. David Eby has a plan. Those that make the most will pay in this province will pay more to pay to support our health care system. #bcpoli

Conservatives tried to bring down government days after the 2024 election, and have tried to force an election again and again. We need stability, not Conservative chaos.

A one-seat majority meant every single vote could bring down the government. My colleagues were voting from hospital beds.
You need a government that can take big swings for you: protecting your job, growing the economy and helping with costs like gas and groceries. Thatās what this election is about.
Just the facts!
There is no question, David Eby is the tallest person in this debate. #bcpoli

BC has a generational opportunity. Weāre seeing good results from our efforts so far, but we know there is more to do - together with our partners, we will unlock every opportunity to create more good jobs & build long-lasting prosperity that every British Columbian can share in.
