Our keynote speaker, Mr. Charles Sserwanja, Head of Programme for Public Health and Social Measures at @irc_uganda, challenged religious leaders and parents to reflect on their responsibility in protecting children and guiding young people.
He noted that while law enforcement plays a role in addressing abuse, lasting change also requires families and faith communities to take responsibility. He cautioned that interpreting scripture without understanding young people’s lived realities can create an information gap between religious leaders and the youth.
Mr. Sserwanja also highlighted how pressure on adolescent girls and young women to find wealthy partners can influence harmful decisions. He called for greater involvement of men and adolescent boys and young men as agents of change, starting early in their development, and recommended intergenerational dialogues in Mayuge to strengthen understanding between young people and adults.

Kenya confirms first Ebola case, death
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale said the patient had lived in the DRC for the past 7 years before falling ill about a month ago and receiving treatment at several hospitals in the country.
The patient travelled by road from the DRC to Kampala before boarding flight 8523 to Nairobi, arriving on Saturday.
He was transported directly from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to Nairobi Hospital by a relative and immediately isolated after presenting with symptoms including fever, chills, intense fatigue and weakness, muscle pain, painful swallowing, sore throat and bleeding under the skin at injection sites.
The patient died on Monday while undergoing treatment. The ministry has so far identified 28 contacts of the deceased, including family members and health workers who attended to him.
Authorities are also tracing 23 passengers and crew members who travelled on the same flight as the deceased, with arrangements for quarantine of those considered at risk underway.

"Uganda selected UAE-based Alpha MBM Investments to develop a 60,000-barrel-per-day refinery in Hoima, with the firm taking a 60% stake and Uganda’s UNOC retaining 40%."
Aliko Dangote said the planned Lamu refinery will be built faster than Uganda’s proposed refinery, warning African governments against relying on investment promises that fail to materialise.
“By the time we are done with Lamu, it will be the fastest refinery to be built,” he said, adding that when Lamu begins operations he expects little physical progress to have been made on Uganda’s project.
Uganda selected UAE-based Alpha MBM Investments to develop a 60,000-barrel-per-day refinery in Hoima, with the firm taking a 60% stake and Uganda’s UNOC retaining 40%.
The refinery itself has been valued at about US$4Bn, while the wider oil development has been described as a roughly US$10Bn investment programme.
Dangote said African governments should “be careful” about investors who raise expectations but do not execute projects.

Celebrating Youth, Hope & Transformation
Yesterday, we joined hands at Janan Secondary School to commemorate International Youth Day 2026 under the theme “Young People: Agents of Hope, Peace and Transformation.”
It was an honour to celebrate alongside His Grace the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, faith leaders, youth leaders, students and partners.
25 trees planted symbolising the 25 years of the Inter-Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU) and our shared commitment to a greener and more sustainable future.
We also had a Blood Donation Drive because young people are not only the leaders of tomorrow; we are saving lives and making a difference today.
As we celebrate 25 years of IRCU, may this generation continue to be agents of hope, peace, unity, service and transformation in our communities and nation.
Happy International Youth Day 2026! 🇺🇬🌍
