Ever wanted to create a custom user interface in #iPXE? Now you can! ipxe.org/cmd/present
wimboot v2.8.0 is finally released with support for network booting @Windows on @Arm - thanks to @2pintsoftware for sponsoring! github.com/ipxe/wimboot/rele…

if you committed this to a codebase i worked in, i would do everything in my power to replace this with a couple asserts and see to it you leave my team
please for the future you do not commit code you don't understand

ceiling is being raised. cursor's copilot helped us write "superhuman code" for a critical feature. We can read this code, but VERY few engineers out there could write it from scratch.
Took lots of convincing too. "come on, this must be possible, try harder". and obviously- done in parts.
The BIOS trick of using "sanboot --drive 0x80" to force #iPXE to boot from a local disk now also works under UEFI: github.com/ipxe/ipxe/commit/…
You can literally do this right now with iPXE. Boot your OS via HTTPS, use mTLS with a client cert if you want to. You're welcome. 🙂

My hot take: PXE boot did not go far enough. Images should be at HTTPS endpoints and auth should be mTLS. I want to completely recreate my machine from scratch anywhere, securely.

Been a while since I had a mad idea, but is it possible to boot a machine (PXE) with eBPF 🐝
Time to find out.
#iPXE can now work with the default (and arguably broken) DST Root CA X3 certificate chain provided by @letsencrypt 🥳 t.ipxe.org/929f06a76

the industry currently relies on a hard fought, narrowly circumscribed, widely understood and shared definition of what open source is.
if it suddenly means something different, the term by definition becomes meaningless because that shared understanding is no longer shared.
#iPXE now includes support for ECDHE cipher suites (using the x25519 elliptic curve) in TLS 🥳
Totally agree. Pull requests are always well intentioned contributions and it's great that people want to help out, but for anything non-trivial the code review can often be more work than it would be to write the code from scratch.

That's also a misconception.
Every feature has to be reviewed, tested, documented and maintained forever by the maintainer.
The client portion of this product is just an unmodified iPXE with the word "iVentoy" used in the menu title and background image...
It seems we have a new player on the field ;-)

BootGen 1.0 released for iPXE Anywhere customers to try out. I will generate USB keys for booting to iPXE without the need for PXE infrastructure. I can also add/sync BranchCache caches with the keys and back. This allows you to use any USB based dock to build any laptop/tablet!
Kudos to @intel for publishing comprehensive register-level programming documentation for their NICs! (Although the 77-page table of contents for the E180 datasheet could do with pruning!)

LETS GO I FLASHED MY MAIN PC BIOS WITH @ipxe RATHER THEN INTEL UNDI I THOUGHT I WAS GONNA TURN MY PC INTO A BRICK
Got #iPXE working on a 486 at last! t.ipxe.org/bc35b24e3 - with thanks to @osd1000, @bjh21_me_uk and @miscwaffle for providing suitable test hardware
Thanks for the feedback! Just waiting for @Microsoft to sign the updated binary now.

I just read the Clayton Craft's (colleague at @igalia) blog post. Interesting reading if you are looking for ideas about how to network booting ARM boards such the RPI4 or similar using @iPXE.
