1/ We are sharing additional details regarding our investigation into unauthorized access to GitHub's internal repositories. Yesterday we detected and contained a compromise of an employee device involving a poisoned VS Code extension. We removed the malicious extension version, isolated the endpoint, and began incident response immediately.

We are investigating unauthorized access to GitHub’s internal repositories. While we currently have no evidence of impact to customer information stored outside of GitHub’s internal repositories (such as our customers’ enterprises, organizations, and repositories), we are closely monitoring our infrastructure for follow-on activity.

People early in their careers often seek advice from me. The questions vary, but there’s a common theme: "How can I stand out in a world that’s becoming increasingly more competitive?" My take -- the only lasting edge isn’t your skill set, network, or even your resume—it’s your psychological strength. Grit, mastering ego, unconventional thinking, delaying gratification, and focusing on the long term are your secret weapons. 🧵👇

Just wrapped the @felicis + @NextLegacy_ event at Black Hat last week! So fun to train with and learn from UFC Hall of Famer and legend @ForrestGriffin, super bowl champ @ryannece, and a handful of security founders (@tines_hq, @semgrep, @ConductorOneInc, @Resourcely, etc) / CISOs / channel partners. After training, we had the opportunity to hear from Ryan and Forrest on mental fortitude. A few thoughts / quotes: - "Find something that is scary or hard for others that comes easy or is fun for you" - Forrest never got nervous before fights and credits that as a key advantage - "If you've never put everything you have on a single bet, I feel bad for you because you aren't living…. Ante up and play the game" - "Losses are great because they can serve as the greatest motivators" - Forrest says his greatest growth in mental fortitude came only after he put everything he had into a fight and still lost - Forrest would remember 2 things to get in the right mindset before entering the cage: 1) "I've done the work and am not going to float the check" - training should be harder than the actual fight 2) "I'm not going to quit on myself" cc @NancyZWang, @alexbovee, @travismcpeak, @drewdennison, @dlukeomalley, @sachafaust, @TomAlcockCRP, @ipsec, @thenava, @WayneDuso, @georgegerchow, etc.

This is your brain on sleep deprivation. Scientists in Canada launched the largest study on how lack of sleep affects the brain. They created games that tested skills like reasoning, language comprehension & decision making. They had one participant repeat these tests in an MRI machine. Here's what they found: On the left is a normal night of sleep. On the right is when it's deprived of 4 hours of sleep. The colored areas are the activity happening in your brain. Notice the lack of activity on the right side. Researchers found there was less activity in the frontal & parietal lobes, which are crucial for decision making, problem solving & mood control. You are simply not at your best when you don't get enough sleep. Another study done at the University of Oslo found that lack of sleep leads to reduced clearance of substances from the brain. These substances are many of the same waste products that are seen to accumulate in the brains of Alzheimer's patients. Some recent studies suggest that poor sleep contributes to higher levels of beta-amyloid protein in the brain, which lead to the amyloid plaques found in the Alzheimer's brain. If you want a healthy brain avoid long term sleep deprivation. What should you do? • When deprived of sleep avoid making big decisions & pause before reacting to an emotion. • Fix your sleeping habits. If you can't get enough hours, focus on increasing your sleep quality to make up for it. Sleep is the best legal performance enhancing drug on the planet. Make it a priority now so you can protect your brain for later.

By age 25, you should be smart enough to realize NOBODY got rich with a salary. If you're still in your 20s and 30s, focus on this in the next 10 years and you'll be wealthier than 97% of people in their 40s...

From a source I trust: @SVB_Financial depositors will get ~50% on Mon/Tues and the balance based on realized value over the next 3-6 months. If this proves true, I expect there will be bank runs beginning Monday am at a large number of non-SIB banks. No company will take even a tiny chance of losing a dollar of deposits as there is no reward for this risk. Absent a systemwide @FDICgov deposit guarantee, more bank runs begin Monday am.

After almost a year of working side-by-side with a multi-millionaire through various different business I have learned many many things. I am constantly trying to learn why he stands out from the crowd. Here are two of the many things that he does that stand out to me. 1) “How can we optimize this.” He finds any inefficiency in our workflow and looks for ways to accomplish the same task with less steps. 2) He is always asking, “What’s next?” He is always wanting to push the envelope and figure out what we can do to push the businesses closer to the mission. If companies don’t innovate, they die. Asking this question on a daily basis keeps our companies on the leading-edge. If you combine #1 and #2 on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis it is a powerful recipe.

Rule #1 of getting married: As soon as a woman gets pregnant she wants to live by her parents. You can either move the parents to you or move to the parents. It's that simple.
