My side project is now installable,
npm i bunmaska is now a thing!
bunmaska: electron minus chromium, powered by bun and webkit 🚀
same app / BrowserWindow / ipcMain code, but your download is ~23MB instead of 150, and native modules are just TypeScript files. no compiling. no node-gyp. all built on @jarredsumner's bun:ffi.
alpha, but real. would love eyes on it.
bunmaska.org
Bunmaska 0.1.0-alpha.9 is out:
New in this release: Electron's exact quit lifecycle, a default macOS menu, signed auto-updates end to end, and a batch of new APIs.
npm i bunmaska

There’s no need to ship Chromium with every desktop app you build, looking for contributors / devs to help me build bunmaska
github.com/ipfizz/bunmaska
Give it a try
npm i bunmaska
@grok help me reach the right audience?
This is precisely why we’re building Bunmaska.org
Imagine building an electron app, with bun + WebKit under 25Mb.
npm i bunmaska
Give it a try! @ibocodes
bunmaska.org is served by Cloudflare Workers. The engines are hosted on R2. @Cloudflare we only need auth and RDS / Postgres now.
bunmaska alpha.8 is out! Now running on Bun 1.4.2 on all three OSes.
@jarredsumner rewrote Bun in Rust and made bun:ffi 3x faster. That makes every bunmaska app faster too. Thanks for the free speed.
Try building your next desktop app with bunmaska.
npm i bunmaska
bunmaska.org
Now imagine the idle memory usage of chrome vs bunmaska.org! 😭
Bunmaska alpha 8 launching soon!

One is best with chai. The other is best with Bun.
Same name. Different purpose.
Bun Maska and Bunmaska @ bunmaska.org
One comes with butter.
The other comes without Chromium.
Apparently, even desktop apps needed some Bun Maska.
@X algorithm, share with devs

VS Code, Slack & Discord use Electron, which ships Chromium + Node.js with every app. That can make apps 200–300+ MB.
Found bunmaska.org, using Bun + native WebKit instead. Tried it and built a small app. Will share soon.
