What is Domestic Debt in a Dollarised World and What does it mean to restructure it?
The IMF-World Bank Definitions are flawed
@cpc01 and I take a look at it focusing on the case of #Maldives and #Cambodia :

IMF-World Bank reviewed their 2026 Debt Sustainability Framework.
Is it fit for purpose?
What is domestic debt in a dollarised context?
What about climate?

“Is @IMFNews Helping Countries Navigate New Pressures?”. NO.
Along with the @WorldBankGroup, they are still relying on private capital, that is driving gross levels of inequality and environmental destruction, to provide the solution. Cancel the sovereign debt #IMFAnnuals2026
Disappointing discussion at #IMFAnnuals2026 that basically implies private finance is the solution for MAC. No mention of meaningful haircuts to unsustainable levels of sovereign debt of MACs. @IMFNews @WorldBankGroup @brettonwoodspr @debtjustice @eurodad
Squeezed by debt and disasters, the Global South needs reparations, not more loans.

Replying to @MenaFem
@MenaFem, in collaboration with Ibon International, @apwld, and other wonderful feminist colleagues, will bring together feminist movements, activists, researchers, academics, and civil society organisations during the #AnnualMeetings of the #IMF and #WorldBank in Bangkok, Thailand, for a Feminist Festival of Resistance and Alternatives to the existing global economic structure.
This festival creates a space for collective reflection, resistance, and imagination. Through dialogues, cultural activities, workshops, and strategic exchanges, participants will explore feminist and anti-imperialist alternatives to austerity, debt, militarism, extractivism, and corporate power. The festival aims to strengthen solidarity, build collective power, and advance collective visions for liberation.

The real impact of #SriLanka’s debt crisis is felt in the lives of women.
One of @IMFNews' harshest austerity programmes has gutted the country’s social safety net, leaving women like Edna unable to pay for medical bills following a workplace accident.

Sri Lanka is facing one of its worst economic crises in its history, and @IMFNews -imposed austerity policies have placed a heavy burden on the public, especially women like Edna.

🪨#RareEarths mining in coastal #SriLanka lays bare capitalism at its most predatory form. Mining lobbies, are capitalising on the country’s debt distress to push commercial extraction of heavy mineral sands from public beaches. In doing so, they not only exploit the country’s vulnerability but also undermine the right to development that working people in the #GlobalSouth have been advocating for years.

After three days of serious deliberation, political and social forces from across Asia put out a very strong statement for peace and development rather than war and austerity. This was at the conclusion of the International Peoples' Assembly and Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research Conference called Hands Off Asia!
For a detailed assessment of the conference, read Vinutha Mallya's essential two part article in Left Views: Part 1 (leftviews.in/international-8…) and part 2 (leftviews.in/en-IN/internati…).
Read as well this article by the organisers - Tings Chak, Atul Chandra, and Shiran Illanperuma - which includes the text of the Colombo Declaration: sundayobserver.lk/2026/07/26…
