I keep seeing misinformation on here by people with massive followings.
Wouldn’t it be better if people got their info instead from these research experts?!
Please retweet/like and tell your students, family and friends. Thank you.

Favorite part was a little past the midpoint when Andre La Gerche comes on to talk about Derek Clayton's heart and experience with afib
Touches on topics I hadn't heard elsewhere
Multiple ablations, when to treat, the nature of AFib, physiology of the heart

Given 56 years ago he ran 2:08:33, what time do you think he’d run today if he: had todays shoes, drank sufficient fluids including CHO during his races, wasn’t working full time, had a coach, massages etc.
Make sure you check out my podcast episode with Derek + top researchers

Derek Clayton: Marathon WR in 1967+1969. Now at 82 smashing it on the bike and playing golf 3x a week. Inspirational.
Heart in amazing shape but has AF.
David Costill, Mark Hargreaves and Andre La Gerche (who’ve tested him over 50 yrs) involved too!! Thanks all!!
We all had a great chat. What a legend Derek Clayton is!! Marathon WR in 1967+1969 and 55 yrs later smashing it on the bike and playing golf 3 days a week. Looking fantastic! An inspiration!

Dr Andrew Coggan: “Be a skeptical consumer of information and truly consider the source”. He’s talking about why need @inside_exercise. From his 2nd time on the podcast: youtu.be/-6DhfMJH84E?si=OOaR…
Please let me know if you have any questions for Derek.
I’m going to do it in order of the events in Derek’s life. So start with Derek and I and then add in David Costill (1969) and then add Mark Hargreaves (1991) and then Andre La Gerche (~2022). An extravaganza.
Can’t wait!
Very excited to let you know that I will be interviewing Derek in a couple of days. Along with David Costill, Mark Hargreaves and Andre La Gerche. All of whom have been on the podcast previously. I’ll explain. 1/
Then cardiologist Andre La Gerche retested him a couple of years ago. These results along with investigations of his amazing (but with significant atrial fibrillation etc) heart were then published with Andre, Mark, Dave and I among the authors. See link below.

Depending on training volume and other factors:
-Explosive resistance training (RT) may improve endurance performance/economy
-Endurance training may not affect hypertrophy but may affect strength and speed of contraction
-More research needed
Thanks @TLexercise

We had a really pleasant, informative chat. Thanks @TLexercise
Resistance training may actually improve endurance performance
Endurance exercise tends to not interfere with resistance exercise
But lots of nuance around these statements. It depends on many factors

Looking forward to chatting in 2 days with Dr Tommy Lundberg from Karolinska University in Sweden
Topic: Concurrent training
Does strength training interfere with endurance training?

Any questions? @TLexercise

I had a nice chat with Glenn about a topic I believe to be very important, given the likely beneficial effects of exercise on issues facing people with cancer, incl. fatigue, metabolic disorders and cachexia. Also a topic that needs a lot more research and target identification👩🔬

There is evidence exercise can:
-reduce the likelihood of getting cancer
-improve the prognosis during cancer treatment
-improve effectiveness of chemotherapy
-reduce metastasis
-reduce the likely of getting cancer again
Remarkable!!
Thanks @LykkeSylow

The first 20-minutes of this podcast are interesting for aging endurance athletes
Listen specifically to the discussion concerning the difference between strength and hypertrophy training
Implications for planning our strength year
1️⃣maintain lean mass across years
Vs
2️⃣maintain strength inside the competitive season
More episodes on this topic available too
Interesting to listen to the discussion about BFR, which I've never tried.

Also enjoyed #33 on lipid metabolism and energy pathways. Favorite bit there was the discussion about competing pathways, rather than "switching off" of pathways.
Looking forward to chatting in 2 days with Associate Professor Jeremy Loenneke from the University of Mississippi
Topic: Blood flow restriction and exercise
Rationale, when and how used, effectiveness, mechanisms etc
Please let me know any questions
@jploenneke
