Lion-tailed macaques in the Western Ghats carry roughly twice as many kinds of parasite when they live beside people, and many of those parasites usually turn up in cattle. 🐒
A write-up from the Centre for Wildlife Studies revisits a 2013 study on the Valparai plateau in Tamil Nadu, where researchers collected 91 droppings from nine troops living in forest fragments. Troops near settlements averaged 5.6 parasite types against 2.5 for troops farther away, and the authors suggest the burden may be one reason fewer young macaques survive in these patches. The macaques are endangered and found only in the Western Ghats.

Many thanks to @NatureInd for covering our world
Fruit flies that evolved over 120 generations on low-protein diets reproduced and laid more eggs early in adult life. But these flies, especially females, were less likely to survive bacterial infections than normal flies.

In this study, P. nagaensis is rediscovered from Nagaland (India) and re-examined for its taxonomic identity using additional evidence based on integrative taxonomy by combining morphology and molecular data.
Detailed morphology, digital illustration of male and female genitalia and notes on the occurrence and aggregation behaviour are provided. Based on an integrative approach, additional evidence for the confirmation of identity of P. nagaensis is provided and discussed.
